what a birthday present that would be to have 20 new buses running by my door - look forwrd to it
Yes agreed Eastwood is always the busiest point on the route - though half of the people who board dont even know how to talk to the driver in english!
Though that been said it is the area where the buses will more than likley be vandalised due to the people living in the area. And no im not refering to all people who live in Eastwood im refering to them that live around Shaidds Mini Mart and Immans Hair Salon who seem to wreck everything they come across.
I give the buses the first time they are out after 8pm to be vandalised. I very much hope my prediction is wrong as i would hope that the buses are looked after as the last thing i want it to have the B10M's put back due to vandalism.
To say these buses were all due to be in service 2 month ago we still await the arrival though i hope they are woth the wait!

It is a rather sweeping statement to say 'all the vandalism will be gone if you bypass x'.
It would be nice to see CCTV routinely searched and sent on to the police if buses are vandalised (no use moaning about vandalism and then forgetting to turn the cameras on like some companies).
Or take a leaf out of Metronet's book - if something has graffiti on, it doesn't go into service before it's cleaned off.

very true guys, also why not do what london are doing, operation bus tag, have a dedicated police division, working with the bus/tram companies, to go over their cctv, and see if an offence as commited, then arrest that person etc. Might be costly, but it as sent the message out across london, so maybe it could work here too? Also agreed, i hope first don't take these buses off, but all routes in rotherham get vandalised, and so will this, infact now this could become the youth bus instead of the 14, due to it being double deckers, which will attract the vandals, etc. Also about eastwood, i get what you mean matt but even if vandalism does take place here, you are not going to divert a) because it would loose to much business, and the x78 as allways served eastwood, b) no alternative routes available. Also if you look in eastwood most people dont get off until sheffield city centre, so their is demand for that service, and not one just to rotherham. Also i have never seen any vandalism in eastwood for a few years now, as the police cracked down on the gangs back in 2005, when windows could go through on a daily basis, along fitzwilliam road.

Is that why London United has all these vandalised ALX400s, nice to see the scheme's working! And as for the East Lancs B7TLs on the London General 213, I take it the scheme's helped as a load of seat backs are missing and the windows are badly etched.

I'm looking forward to seeing these buses in action - I just wish they would hurry up and arrive!
I think we could see a Gemini stray onto another Rotherham route quite soon after they arrive probably by an allocator not thinking right. I know that on the whole the X78 doesn't interwork but I thought I heard that the 23B in the morning becomes an X78. Is that to mean we will end up with a Gemini on this route or will the interworkings be removed?
As for the vandalism - I give it a week and a half. I do have to say I like this speculation that all vandalism happens at night (with the impression that it's the young people). On the issue of young people there's just as much chance of a 20-30 year old working class person vandalising a bus as there is a 14 or 15 year old so it would be nice if we stopped tarnishing all young people with the same brush and accept there's bad people of all ages. In regards to the vandalism I found that someone had vandalised an Olympian on the morning route (34241) by scrawling their name on the window with an orange marker pen. Fortunately it could be wiped off easily enough as it had disappeared when I next caught that bus - the following morning. So in short these buses will be vandalised no matter what time they're running.

Very true r2ro, i have encounted vandlism on the buses i have drove quite a few times, and like what as being said above, rotherham seems to be the main hotspot for bus vandlism in south yorkshire, as it allways as being, the new geminis will probabily venture onto other routes, maybe even the 37 school run no doubt they will be vandlised, as new buses in rotherham seem to attract attention, especially double deckers, i mean just take a look now at the new stagecoach rotherham darts and evolutions, they are a right mess now!
Also the x78 interowrks with the x7 aswell, which is now run from doncaster, and if true about all x78 driver boards moving to rotherham, will the x7 follow suit, or just do a dead run back to doncaster from sheffield?
Cheers, Dave

X7 will doubtlessly follow its compatriot.
I agree that the buses will get vandalised - thats society. How long it takes, which route they escape onto from time to time. It matters not, it will happen. Theres only one way to avoid it and thats to leave them in the depot.
And thats hardly positive is it - let alone worth the investment!

Will that see the X7 starting back at Bawtry and not Parrots Corner again?

Could be wrong here but was driving by Volvo Truck and Bus in Rotherham earlier to see a route 60 branded Gemini from Sheffield and another Gemini which looked like the new style gemini, it was in Barbie 1/3 livery and looked brand new.
Could this be the first bus here out of the batch of 20? or was it one from Sheffield in for servicing?

i have now been informed that a Gemini bus arrived at Fleetwood Docks yesterday to head towards either Manchester Leeds or South Yorkshire. So with the timings i saw this bus i suspect it will be the new gemini and one for SY as i doubt they would go to Rotherham then back to Leeds/Manchester ect.
I will head over there on Monday to hopefully get a few photos and see if i can find out when it will be going to M / R depot.

Well, had a look and i can't see any B9TL in Rotherham, unless its well hidden. Certainly is not at Crossroads.
At Crossroads were various SY vehicles including B7TL 37146, [what i believe was] 37152 and a 41 B7TL (non branded). Also B7L 60738 and a 61xxx B7L. Also a SiS '120' B6BLE.
No new buses though.

I spoke to the Traffic Manager at First last week and was told that the new buses would come into operation at the end of April.
