A good day at the SYTM today, visitor numbers better than expected considering the time of year.

Just a reminder that the Museum Open day is this Sunday. (9th October). The heritage bus service is the same as above: 10:45, 11:45, 12:45, 13:45, 14:45, 15:45, 16:45 from Rotherham Interchange Platform C1 to the Museum. I would expect either 188/904/1156 on the service, one of the three but I cannot confirm yet.

As I have never been to the museum, what exactly is on offer and is it good value for money? Doesn't sound like its that big at its current location at Aldwarke. Is there plenty to do and is it ok to bring small children along too (below 5 years of age)?

I would say that yes it is good value for money: Entrance to the museum is from 11.00 am with last entry at 16.00 and prices are: £3.50 for adults and £2 for children, senior citizens and other unwaged people. Family Ticket at £8 to cover 2 adults and up to 3 children. (Costs include admission to the museum and the heritage bus service).
It is 2 units at Aldwarke now which house about 50 vehicles between them.
It is very good for families yes and absolutely no problem with bringing small children along.

WELL worth a visit in my opinion, especially if you have never been. Their own promotional bus in the museum had a few kids activities available i think.

Having just come back I wasn't that impressed I have to say. Highlight for me was 1756 in its Mainline colours.
A lack of stalls didn't help and it's all a little bit "lacking" for me.
Don't begrudge paying £3.50 at all but too much of the memorabilia is hidden away.
Would also have liked to have a sit down on the fondly remembered 1756 but unfortunately this wasn't possible.
Certainly not something I'd go to every month.

The next open day at Aldwarke is Sunday 13 November. Also advised on the SYTM website is the following. Whilst it is good that the museum has the lucrative wedding trade as a much needed revenue stream it is sad that not enough is being done at the museum from a transport heritage standpoint.
