if the electrification of the leeds to sheffield via barnsley and sheffield to doncaster is due (both in the tier one priority section),then the D train units would be a good stopgap ,i can't see any of the franchise bidders wanting to invest in new diesel units if the goverment funding for electrification is forthcoming

By the time these lines are electrified (if ever) brand new DMUs will have done their million miles and been withdrawn

With the fire on 230001 and the cancellation of the london midland test runs it looks like this project is dead in the water
