Interesting. Being from Barnsley originally and living on the edge of Manchester, not too far from Glossop for years now, I've always said a Barnsley-Penistone-Manchester service would work equally as well with there being no competing direct train service.
The X57 will mean that Glossop gets its direct Manchester service back but it can never compete with the pretty decent rail service it already has. If it drops into Hyde however it could get some local journeys given the 341 Hyde-Glossop service is a long route given how close the two towns are.
This week has seen changes to Glossop services with Stagecoach Manchester increasing the 237 Ashton-Glossop to every 20 minutes and withdrawing from the 236. GB Coaches, trading as NorthWestern, have taken up that service with some route enhancements.

EDIT: Also just read that Glossop-Hyde will be getting a new bus service operated by NorthWestern from the same date and the X57 will not stop anywhere between Manchester and the Gun Inn in Hollingworth.

That’s correct. I heard this evening. Due to financial issues at GB Coaches by the sounds.

Wow - bus companies introducing new routes, rather than just trimming back existing ones - that takes me back a few years!
Who knows if it'll work - there's a lot of fairly empty countryside, there's bad weather in winter, there's traffic problems between Glossop and the M67, but the very best of luck to them with this venture - great news!
I've not seen any mention of the 273/274 though - I get that the 275 is becoming the 257 (an old number for Sheffield - Bamford/ Ladbybower services, for those who remember the East Midlands Sunday service) but there's no mention of the Castleton services, so are they being sacrificed altogether or just cut back for the winter? (I can't remember when they became Sunday-only)

Excellent service by Hulleys, and very good luck. I am old enough to remember Sheffield Joint Omnibus Committee services Sheffield to Manchester both via Snake and Woodhead One day I did the morning service from Pond Street via Woodhead to Manchester - several buses lined up to cater for potential demand, I think two or three made the trip. Coffee break at the Dog and Partridge. We returned late afternoon on the Snake service and my wife and I were the only passengers, along with the conductor for the whole journey back to Sheffield.
Hulleys at one time recently said they carried bikes, I wonder if they will do so on this route. Interesting concession for railcard holders too.
