The current Hulleys timings are pretty much exactly an hour each way, so as they are very optimistic I'd suspect it won't be the same route. I'd imagine they'll go back to running via Mastin Moor rather than via Eckington. The Hulleys extension was two buses added on to the 84 which had significant dwell time in Chesterfield already. If that couldn't be made reliable then more in depth changes are needed to get this alternative working.
Is there any way to find out if there were any other bidders and what the other tendered options were? I did think there might have been scope to fix some of the losses from previous changes as part of this but I guess the short timescales meant no real option to think strategically.
According to DCC however, the service changes notice for the 11th/12th of May are an attempt to 'reduce confusion' for passengers by having fixed days for timetable changes each year. They sound in no hurry to actually tell us what those changes are however!

No details as yet, but Stagecoach are changing a few routes in May: bustimes.org/licences/PC1118599Main changes appear to be tweaks for timekeeping. No registration for the 80 yet, but as they've only just been awarded it I guess that will take a short while. Hopefully details will be out soon. Hulleys are also making changes to the 55, 170, 257 and 272. Mainly timetable tweaks and the known changes for the 80, but they do list route changes for the 257 so we'll have to wait and see what that involves.

This gets brought up every time. there are posts on here already stating that the contract for the 80 has only just been awarded. This suggests that it is all still a work in progress. If Something can not get covered they have the ability to amend other work to provide cover for areas left out. This is why they dont publish anything until everything is sorted out and signed.

It would be a good idea to route the 257 up Lydgate Lane, down Crookes Road, Nile Street and Glossop Road, providing a link with Lydgate School, Alexander Court care home and Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

I am sure the people of Killamarsh are not going to miss Hulleys based on Todays performance from Crystal Peaks towards Chesterfield. The 11.15 showed up at 11.40 and swiftly changed its board to "sorry not in service", looking at bustimes it went back into service from Eckington onwards. To add insult to injury the 12.15 did the same, it showed up in Crystal Peaks at 12.40ish and again went out of service until Eckington. The 13.15 showed up on time, so 2 hours later, finally we have a service onwards
However, having spoke to a few people from Killamarsh during my enforced stay in Crystal Peaks the topic rapidly changed to how unreliable the 80 is but theres always the 74 "if we get to the bus stop for 11.15". Probably also not surprising, the consensus was that no one was bothered about a bus to Chesterfield, they just wanted a good link to Crystal Peaks.

The times I've driven a 74 mid morning round Rowan Tree with the 80 due and lots of passengers were stood there looking at watches and shaking heads.

Probably also not surprising, the consensus was that no one was bothered about a bus to Chesterfield, they just wanted a good link to Crystal Peaks. This is most likely linked to some roadworks that cropped up on Chatsworth Road yesterday morning with no prior warning. For example, the 9:45 ex Holymoorside - which would have formed the 11:15 - lost 20 minutes between Brookside and Brampton on top of the 10 minutes it was already late at Holymoorside. That delay would have also been caused by the same roadworks as it took 20 minutes from Brampton to Brookside which is timed for around 5 minutes.
It's a double edged sword. The 80 is suffering delays from out of control roadworks, but at the same time doesn't have enough recovery time built to allow for things like that. Actually, make that a triple-edged sword as it's likely anything that did have enough recovery time wouldn't be commercially viable.
Hulleys underestimated the task, yes, but DCC really need to get a hold on what is causing the delays and unreliable running in the first place.

Could not agree more. Recently I did a 21 from Worksop to Doncaster, there were 4 or 5 sets of temp lights. It is about time utility companies and councils started facing financial penalties for this. Communication and organisation are appalling. One week it's telecoms, the next week the water companies dig up the same piece of road.
