We are starting to see a positive return of people using our bus services across South Yorkshire for the first time since the pandemic, and we are looking to introduce some improvements to some services, journeys, and frequencies, but before we do that, we want to hear your views on the proposals. We have listened to lots of people over the past few months who have given us their views on what they would like to see with their bus service, and we have added some of those requests into the proposal. You can see a summary of the changes below.

We have listened to lots of people over the past few months who have given us their views on what they would like to see with their bus service, and we have added some of those requests into the proposal. You can see a summary of the changes below. Wholly positive changes, with a full renumbering of services in Doncaster (15 becomes 315, 66 becomes 366 etc.). Some highlights are:
15 will be split at Doncaster Frenchgate. Edlington will remain as the 315 with journeys up to every 12' minutes in the daytime and half-hourly evenings and Sundays. Wheatley will gain new service 376 to the same route and frequency as now. 52A returns to Wisewood and Loxley, up to every 30 minutes. 57 one trip per hour extends to Warning Tongue Lane to provide a daytime bus service for this area. Renumbered 354. 58 will run both directions along Stoops Lane and utilise the bus turning circle. Reduced from every 30 to every 45 minutes. Renumbered 358. 140/141 will operate every hour on Sundays, to provide a combined half-hour combined frequency. X1/X10 flips routes between Sheffield and Rotherham to cover for the former X78 route. X10 at the same time is renumbered X2 and 1 trip per hour continues through to Doncaster via the current 10 route (except for Broadway at Balby). X5 one trip per hour extends from Dinnington to Maltby (Queens Corner) via Thurcroft and Bramley, mirroring the former 18 CT Plus/Powells service that was withdrawn in 2019. X78 flips routes between Sheffield and Rotherham to cover for the former X1/X10 route. Also renumbered at the same time to become the X3.

Filled mine in.
Why are Doncaster buses being renumbered in the 300s? This sounds like going back to the old SYT days of 100s, 200s 300s etc.
I assume they don't want buses with the same numbers in different areas so 81/82 for example but the 300s seems weird why not go back to the 100s?

Most of the changes are positive - in particular the Doncaster - Edenthorpe services which now combined to provide a 10' minute daytime service between services 374/387/388. Hatfield Woodhouse also regains its direct links to Doncaster Centre and Thorne as a result.

Indeed hopefully the extension to old Stainforth & Hatfield route will ensure 84 is more viable, it has become a bit of a ghost route in the last 18 months. It seems we are going back to the days before the Partnership when 88 (then 8) was removed and 84 stopping at Barnby Dun let's hope they last this time.

I think apart from the X78 change the Doncaster ones look ok. Certainly splitting the 15 up, the Hatfield/Thorne etc areas and a couple of slight frequency increases where required

So Sheffield - Doncaster essentially gets an extra bus an hour, sounds good. Shame to lose the X78 route number though, from a nostalgia point of view but they don't run buses for enthusiasts, they run them for profit. I can't really comment on the Doncaster domestic services as I am not au fait, bar a couple of days out a year around there. I thought the 52a stopped going through to Wisewood/Loxley to aid reliability with the problems caused on Middlewood Road..it made a difference in my opinion. It's a shame there are no more improvements in Whirlow and Dore and no sign of the much missed 17 being reinstated. It seems First are dipping their toe in the water but playing it very safe. Better than nout.

when it says the X78 (to be X3) does Sheffield to Meadowhall via Attercliffe and X1/X10 (to be X1/X2) does Sheffield to Meadowhall via Brightside, do they keep the existing route Meadowhall to Rotherham (via Meadowbank or Magna respectively) or are they swapped over too?

ps - that consultation seems to be well hidden on their website! It's posted on all buses. I am not best pleased myself and about 8 others stood on Cleveland Street waiting for a bus only for them all to divert via Waterdale with no warning or advice, this is really the contempt that First Doncaster have for passengers, a lot of furious people waiting at Christ Church as well. No one had a clue they were diverted not good enough, Cleveland Street and Hall Gate were both open with traffic. I can't be pleased with the changes if you can't catch a bus in the first place.

Understand the routes between Meadowhall and Rotherham are also being switched, although the First website doesn't exactly help make that very clear.

That’s my understanding too that the X3 (X78) basically will run the current X1 route between Rotherham and Sheffield and vice versa. In my opinion the current X78 route is better as it seems to suffer from congestion less than the X1 route does, the X1 has been a shambles from day one - bringing that in back in 2016 is when they pressed self destruct on the Maltby services

Can we have an explanation about what has happened in the last 6 months to change to increasing routes.
In August we were being told buses would be reduced significantly in October in evenings and weekends with bus companies needing a bail out and subsidies.
Now six months later suddenly the bus world is rosy again, people are getting on them and as such we need to increase services.
So what has suddenly changed? What happened to the driver shortage is that now fixed? Why have suddenly people decided the bus looks a good way to travel?
Is this replicated around the UK? Are passenger numbers increasing so much that they feel it will be profitable for example to put a bus route back to from Barnby Dun to Stainforth or direct to Thorne?

donc That's a good question, what has changed? Why after being fed scraps and told we should be grateful it's not breadcrumbs are we being told things are on the up? Surely the horrendous Sunday and evening timetables would have had the opposite affect?
