Does anyone remember this route? Why was it taken off and is there any chance of it being put back on again?

I *vaugely* remember it - didn't it run as the current 67, but only as far as Wheatley Hills? ISTR the display on the ultimate blind was "SILVER JUBILEE CLOSE".

179 ran along Thorne Road and terminated outside Sandall Park Golf Course (the turning point is still there along with the old concrete bus stop).
190 went to Silver Jubilee Close.
With the introduction of increased frequencies on the then 187 188 and X88 the need for a 179 was reduced considerably.
It will never return unless they decide to have a bus route around Wheatley Hills but the actual route of having a bus just go along Thorne Road to Wheatley Hotel is unviable.
179 worked because it was the only bus that went passed the hospital and terminated on St Sepulchre Gate all the others terminated at Christ Church so all Thorne Road and Hospital passengers had to get 179 or walk a distance up hallgate

What year was that taken in? I distinctly remember the series 179 running to Silver Jubilee Close, just before it was taken off all together. I live in Wheatley Hills and don't remember a 190 Service so that was probably before i came to live here
EDIT: I have just asked my mum and she says there was a 190 service that ran to Thorne Road years and years ago and the 179 ran to Silver Jubilee Close in the later years before it was taken off

Equally I\m sure I've seen a picture of 179 SILVER JUBILEE CLOSE. When was it taken off, do you know?
The current route would probably be unsustainable, particularly for First, so I imagine that's why it is now integrated with the 67.

I can't remember the exact year 179 and 190 were withdrawn I know 190 was still running in March 1996 because I caught it from the Silver Jubilee Close terminus to go to my first day at my Saturday job.
It is possible they withdrew 190 and split 179 up for a while but I don't think they did. I always remember see 179 at the turning circle on my way to school.

Its taken outside the Frenchgate Centre when the buses used to terminate from there

The 179 did run to Silver Jubilee Close. I've asked various people on my street now and they all say the same.
My neighbour also said they took it off around 1998/1999 because it wasn't paying and they replaced it with the then Service 68 to Thorne and the 68A to Kirk Sandall or Barnby Dun. Service 190 used to run to Silver Jubilee and then carry on to the Thorne Road Circular but those were before the days of the 179

Cant remember it was a very short lived thing I think they tried to revive 179's fortunes but the Clay Lane people didnt like it it ran twice an hour they like a frequent service. Someone just told me (they have an old timetable) it was Clay Lane via hospital
