Looking at the latest updated fleet it looks as though Tm Travel have gained 2 new Optare Excels, these been B42F and the registrations are, I don't think this as been covered on the forum yet, so do we know if these are MKI's or MKII's and what company they were new with and what company they have arrived at Tm Travel from?

Judging by the R-registration, I presume they will be MkI because MkII didn't come in until about V reg I think.

New to Cardiff Bus, and I remember reading that they came via another operator (Eastbourne? Rotala?). They're also supposed to be notoriously unreliable! Would explainw hy Caridff sold them but retained step stock. Not seen these two (or the DJNs either for that matter) at all yet.

Both have arrived, one has been pressed into service in all over white. The other is awaiting attention.

Both have arrived, one has been pressed into service in all over white. I think I spotted this one today in Dronfield on the 293. Looked alright actually. The paintwork was good and the seating looks much better than those on the ex-Harris Excels. But the flip-dot (?) display wasn't working (displaying 293 Dronfield on paper in the window).

R213 DKG is now here in White and was on service 293 today in Sheffield.
Found out these came from Central Connect in Birmingham, also unrelated R210 DKG is currently at Hellaby still in Central Connect livery, could this also be joining the TM Travel fleet?

Both arrived showing South Gloucester bus and coach and only two have been bought.

Feel sorry for TM Travel taking on these vehicles, wonder how long it will be before we see them out of service or broken down just like with the SPD Darts.
By the way how does the SPD Dart with TM Travel cope, does it suffer a lot of problems and drivers hate it or is it a good vehicle, only had the fortune of catching this vehicle once and I have to say it was by far the best SPD Dart I had ever traveled on. Think it's registration is S587 RGA or something like that.

Think it's registration is S587 RGA or something like that. It tends to get put on lighter routes like 293 & 73 so copes quite well. It should be remembered that these vehicles are not suited to heavy work and when kept away from it tend to behave. (A little preventative maintenance helps as well). If you buy a bus from a company famous for building dust carts you tend to get a dust cart.

These buses have been victims of circumstance on a few occasions and are not as bad as their history might suggest.

Unreliable is an understatement..rotting junk is the word I think!!!!
Rotting Junk is 2 words Maltaboy ;D
Excels are prone to certain problems, but if you have a good engineering team in place that can get to know them and keep on top of them, which TM seem to be able to do, then they are managable. They are also excellent value for money compared to similar age low floor buses from other manufacturers.
