My next model was also converted from the London DMS as shown in Pics 1&2 in the Big Stuff 1510 thread. This time the model was made to represent Daimler Fleetline 754 – WWJ 754M , with Park Royal bodywork. This bus was the last ever to be delivered new in Sheffield Transport livery in 1973 , just a few months before SYPTE takeover in April ’74 . The real bus is preserved at Sandtoft . The model was taken apart and then paint stripped , then the mods began !! Heres a list of most of the major jobs …. Roof sides profile heavily rounded with an angle grinder . All roof beading then renewed to correct areas Front and rear peaked domes made with car body filler Total new front panels fabricated from thin aluminium sheet the above pic is along side my usual scale models, of 4mm -1/76 scale, early Jumbo Atlantean to show comparison in size! O/S lower windows added , filled or reshaped to correct layout Side and rear destinations cut out and made Beading removed or added ect when necessary Drivers o/s window lowered above , deepened below Interior staircase moved one seat forward from original position , which meant altering seating , ceiling and floor panels . Added telescope! Lower deck interior altered and Videmat machine fitted ! Home made screens and extra/altered windows, and all decals. Paint used was Halfords Ford Ivory aerosol for the cream , and brushed Humbrol no15 for the blue.

Thanks Andy ! All the lights apart from the rear were handmade usually with offcuts of plastic. The headlamps were made from a thin slice of plastic tube , as can be seen when the initial final paint was applied . This was then shallow drilled to give the concave shape . Then tinfoil was used to line the cone . This was then sealed with my daughters (honest!) nail varnish lacquer which made the glass dome (hard to see in pics)

....i shudder to think !!!! Each one has varying timescales depending on the amount of conversion work required . I usually spend the odd couple of hours at night on them when i get chance , but usually they take almost a year in all , as i also do several 4mm scale models in between ! All good fun !!!

I have to say Transit that the quality of your work is simply outstanding. I shudder to think how much time you put in to these things. Have you ever thought of getting a major manufacturer to sponsor your efforts? I'm sure some of the big players in the model market might want to invest a little if you use their stuff. Now, how's the Dominator coming along?

... thanks for the kind words guys ! At present i build my models purely for pleasure , and try helping other model bus builders who are struggling in finding parts , transfers, paints , kits , or even pics of a certain subject ect. However , i would gladly take on a sponser if an offer came along!!! I am by no means an expert , and currently only make bus models of local interest , but am always willing to help if and when i can, to encourage even more people to "have a go"!
As for the Dominator.... all the side windows are now finally reshaped , and i'm on with the total re-working of front and rear ends !
