"Lacking power but lovely and smooth, I welcome more of these to Bury!" - I don't think they'll be saying that for very long! Is their any news on the rest of the batch being repainted/transferred to Manchester?

40532 aka S527UAK at Alpha's! I see they've given up with them then in Somerset... I like the fact there has been no preservation movement for one of these, despite the fact they were new to Mainline! There are plenty darts going into preservation. Mainly from operators that have looked after them a bit better. sent from my mobile device

If anyone wants an SPD saving then go ahead and preserve it, just make sure you have plenty of money. To me, whether they were new to Mainline or not they are clapped out heaps which deserve to go nowhere other than for the chop

It's hard to believe that anyone would preserve a modern bus but then again the feeling may have been similar to that of the Dominator and B10M.

It's hard to believe that anyone would preserve a modern bus but then again the feeling may have been similar to that of the Dominator and B10M. People will preserve what they remember which is why there is so much more modern rear engine stuff on the preservation scene now. Anything sort of pre Dominator wouldn't interest me to the point where I would want to preserve it but there again I would have no interest in preserving a pile of junk like a Dart.

It was a tongue in cheek comment - they really are clapped out and there's nothing you could really do with one if it was preserved. Body sag, chassis rot, engine rebuild (possibly new engine even) and a hell of a lot of interior work. The only real mainline stuff that would be worthy of preservation would be when any of the Mainline B10's come up. Not great condition, but something can certainly be done to one of those compared to a Dart.

Never know - if it was still here in Sheffield it could well have been doing X5's by now!
