So its often stated like Rome Sheffield is built on 7 hills. So which are they and waht are the nearest bus route past or present or terminii.
reckon Elm Tree might be one with tram replacement 95 and 70/71 circulars along with 41/120 passing.

dificult to say isnt it since that area there is higher ground still all ay out to ringinglow. bit like when you look say walkley but ultimately crosspool is same hill.
did once try to count the main rivers and feeders and then look at the land inbetween them.
reckon wincobank as to one of the highest points in sheff boundary route 39? or 93.

How about the hills of Gleadless Valley on the 20/20A & 47/48 routes and also where the Terminus's are located? Not sure of the 7 hills or what they are called, but I can list all of the 5 rivers of Sheffield  . |

Just found an interesting website mdfs.net/Docs/Sheffield/Hills/ which suggests that there are in fact 8 hills and estimates what they are. Numbers 3-6 match the suggestions we've made. |

You can see Drax?! can only see that on very clear days from Donny, can always see Eggborough and Ferrybridge though, as well as the Trent Valley power stations. I love looking at views, Sheffield is amazing for these.
Anyone know the highest point of Doncaster? Or Rotherham, Barnsley for that matter?

Apparently, at the top of the Frenchgate multi-storey on a clear day York Minster can be seen, as well as all of the Trent Valley, Ouse Valley and the Pennines. I love to look and see how far way places are yet seem so close!
Once when returning from a trip to Scarborough coming just off the moors, Thorpe Marsh power station could be seen! You can see further than you think on Frenchgate!

South Yorkshire, Sheffield in particular, must have some of the best vies in the country! I love looking at views, where is Owler Bar exactly CS1? I would like to visit it, or anywhere else, maybe near where you say you live, i'm not asking for your address, but you get my gist... |

Owler Bar is just on the South Yorkshire / Derbyshire border just past Totley in South West Sheffield mate. Sounds like from the above CS1 lives in Hurlfield or top end of Arbourthorne. Would not have thought Hurlfield / Manor Top was the highest point in the city, would have said either Kimberworth or Wincobank were good contenders as is Stannington / Stocksbridge. |

Rotherham I would say with out a doubt, West Hill, although top of Carr Hill is also a good vantage point in Northfield. Wish I would have done Geography now back in School rather than Manufacturing  . |

Stannington is hidden by the top of Lydgate lane and Crookes top, and Loxley common on the other side. I can see over wincobank hill and over the top of concord sports centre-Keppels coloum-thorpe hesley and Wentworth. Kimberworth and Wingfield must have good views. Where i live used to be in Derbyshire till the 50s and had a Mine that overlooked sheffield. Ah right, as far as I am aware Manor Top was always in South Yorkshire but areas just south of Manor Top such as Intake and Base Green used to be in Derbyshire and still have tell tale signs of Derbyshire, the major one been they have Severn Trent Water rather than Yorkshire Water. From this I am guessing you are near to Gleadless perhaps, maybe top end of Charnock / Base Green which is around the same as Manor Top, but then again maybe not, I did not do Geography so I shall leave it at that . I know Woodseats was Derbyshire until 1901 though, as the old South Yorkshire border was at Meersbrook, Little London Road. If you go down into Shire Brook Valley at Woodhouse, if you go over the Shire Brook (stream) this marked the old Yorkshire - Derbyshire boundary, and on the small Wooden bridge there is a plaque marking this, as Woodhouse was Yorkshire and Hackenthorpe Derbyshire. |

Well what I can see from my window is the tower blocks and houses of Eastwood to my South, the Corus Steelworks, Whinney Hill and McDonalds Sign to the East, Tinsley Cooling Towers (used to), Carr Hill and Wincobank / Kimberworth to my West and Parkgate, Barbott Hall, Retail World & Rawmarsh to my North.
Not a very pretty site, all council estates or industry, but oh well!
From my Nanan's house on Fraser Road near to Busman3's in Woodseats, you can see most of Sheffield City Centre and out to Rotherham.

Thats right Meersbrook valley up to newfield and out to Woodhouse/Shirebrook Beighton and most of south east sheffield was Derbyshire. Behind my house is where the gates to the city of Sheffield stood-Known in those days as parkhouse, Hagg lane farm and the Duke of norfolks own park. For industry we had Intake colliery, Birley vale coliery, various addits into the hillside off fox lane birley, a thriving Blacksmiths and more pubs than you could shake a stick at. More worryingly for me is mr Gilbert goulds drift mine which ran under my house into the abandoned workings of Woodthorpe pit/deep pit. Coal is 6ft high and is only 45 yards down. He finished mining in the early 30s. A home made pit was sunk after the war just down the road called Mangle main-this is now the Estate off Hollinsend road/Gleadless road. We had 2 toll gates, one on Gleadless road and the other is now under Norton avenue near the Cutlers pub. To think all this is now gone and urbanised. Thanks for the History CS1 really appreciate it mate  . Coming to think of it I would have said you were in Fairleigh for a second, but then maybe not, unless you are the loner who lives in the only house remaining and won't sell up . Low Edges flats were ok, can only vaguely remember them though as my sister lived on the 12th floor, they were pulled down quite a bit back now, Jordanthorpe ones have a good vantage point over Derbyshire, but there is only the biddy block left, due to them pulling Rhodes and the other block down. Would say the 2 at Herdings Park are the best for vantage points, you can see them for miles around, even from the top of my road! same with Beaverleigh at Clifton. |

LOL, only other area I can think of is Woodthorpe, but the views from here are not that great. Anyway I have had my Geography and History leason for today . |

Meadowhead is one however it wasnt in sheffield until fairly recent times (1905 ish)
