I've flown from there four times, to Dublin, Pisa, Malaga and Paris, and can thoroughly recommend it.
It's particularly good for me living only four miles away, but even if you have to travel there from further away it is still an excellent airport.
Quite apart from the good value flights available the facilities are excellent. Car parking is right outside the terminal building, with plenty of room available.
Check in, after early teething problems, is now fully computerised and working well.
Downstairs in the terminal are a Costa Coffee bar, a Wetherspoons pub and a well stocked Spar shop. There's also a games arcade, one of 3 throughout the terminal.
Upstairs, landside, is another, larger Wetherspoons, with a panoramic view over the aircraft apron and runway. There's also a large Food Hall area, that serves excellent breakfasts, and roast dinners at other times, plus drinks and cakes etc. There is also a Chinese restaurant section, although I don't think that has opened yet.
There's also a World News newsagent shop, which sells many other things as well.
Now these facilities have been opened landside it's worth visiting DSA even if you're not flying. You can have a drink or a meal and get a good view of the planes.
Airside there's a duty free shop (decent prices and a good selection), another World News, another Costa Coffee, and a Bar O8 serving drinks, and a separate Bar O8 run restaurant. The seating area is particularly attractive and comfortable, the best I've seen at any airport.
There are 6 aircraft boarding gates, and no airbridges yet but there are gantries that lead you to steps down to ground level close to the planes, where you board by going up steps. I believe there is now a bus available to take passengers to and from the furthest parked aircraft, although as the airport is not yet very busy in terms of numbers of flights it's usually possible to park most planes very close to the terminal.
On arriving at DSA on an incoming flight I've always found the baggage reclaim very fast and efficient. I understand that at times, especially late at night when several planes arrive close together, it can get busy and there have been occasional delays but in my experience the baggage reclaim is much quicker than other airports, especially Manchester where it's usually very slow.
Overall DSA is shaping up very well and hopefully will build on its successful first year to become a major competitor to the likes of Manchester.
