Am I dreaming or have we got a new Attachments bar added to the forum since yesterday afternoon? Here is a print screen of the new attachments area, just in case anyone is wondering what I'm talking about. I'm not sure how this will come out, as I'm uploading the photo using the new Attachments function of the forum. Attachments:

This is part of the Version 5 BETA testing stage by Proboards, though the Attachments will arrive a little early. They are in BETA testing at the moment, so will have some bugs in them and I would advise on not uploading anything at this stage until we get confirmation that the BETA test is over, as all files may well be deleted during this stage.

Afraid not Duncan. That feature is no longer in the pipeline. It seems to be changing every week, though the forum software will become more like VBulletin, with better and faster searches.
Version 5 will mainly be administration changes, giving myself full control over the 50,000 estimated lines of code that this forum alone will contain (how fun!). There will be a few slight changes to the way the forum operates, though the majority of features on the present forum software (4.5) will remain in place once the upgrade is complete.
A sneak preview from March 2008 of the new upcoming Version 5 can be viewed on the video below,
Full details of what is expected will not be fully known until 3 months prior to the release of Version 5.

Only 50,000?
You mention vBulletin, IMHO it would be a Good Thing for the forum if we were to move there - although I appreciate that the move would be difficult.

Well, estimated at 50,000 Not keen on VBulletin myself, after running a VBulletin forum, the £48 a year fee just isn't worth it, when compared to SMF or PHPBB3 in my view. You also have to find a web host who will actually host VBulletin, which can be quite difficult at times, due to the way the software is set up. A move to any other forum provider at this stage would be a bad decision in my view, as Proboards at the moment don't let you back up your database, so that we could move to say SMF. Besides I rather like Proboards and I'm quite excited about Version 5 myself. Though we are still waiting over a year later Ta, Sam

You can purchase a lifetime license for about £100. It's not really difficult, you just can't do it with some of the freebie tat - it would involve having to finance hosting through Google Ads, but (having done it myself) this can be done and make a small profit.

Yes, though I think the lifetime was £90 (well the one I purchased anyway a few years back) though the hosting was coming to nearly £80 per year. It can indeed be done through Adverts, though Google AdSense pays pennies compared to my new adverts hosted by AdJug. It is also slightly different to Google AdSense as you are purchased on the ads that are shown rather than clicks and advertisers bid for your website. Currently made around £1.50 over the last few days If this trend continues, I'll have paid off all the hosting etc within the next 2 months. I'm not overlay keen on VBulletin and the Admin Panel is a complete nightmare when you first use it. Must have taken me a good few months just to set the thing up ;D Ta, Sam
