I went with my daughter, an have been every year. I for one want it to continue as finding the bits and pieces you need can be a pain. Me usually makes a list of what bits I need in advance, didn`t this year, and still managded to spend too much (just don`t tell other half). As for the comments of nowt moving for 5 mins/kids board etc, I took my son (2) this year as well, and both of them loved the gresley beat, lots of steam trains moving and most of the time 2/3 at once. Had to drag them away.

Hi Gaz , the track only has to be clean along the top surface of the rail in contact with the wheels (hence why the sides are often weathered on layouts to represent rust ect) I would think using a bit of fine 1200 wet and dry wrapped round a small block of wood will do the job . If it still stops , i would check the joint connectors , as an incorrect or faulty one would cause intermittent pulses of electric making the train stop/start . This site below may also help ! (check all the hints and tips on the left) ...... www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Maintenance.htm
