Over the last month i have notice, there is less and less people putting thing on here, i don't know if it is just time or they are fed up. Perhap we need a re-think into to working out how to get people involved?. I think one simple reason for this is that certain garages take the "a single decker is a single decker" approach to allocation, so it becomes unremarkable to see a Y-CSF B10BLE on a route normally run by a R-JYG one normally. The lack of route branding on most Olive Grove buses also means fewer "obvious" misallocations Plus to echo r2ro's point, we know a lot more about interworking and duties than before; seeing an X78 branded Gemini on the X6 to Dinnington isn't that strange when you know that these routes interwork at certain times.

My only worry with this is time. People on here only have so much time and adding this and that, people may just say forget it. Perhap we need a re-think into to working out how to get people involved?. Likewise though readers only have a certain amount of time to search around for what the fleetnumber refers to, and certainly I won't bother reading a post if it's just a stack of numbers. What really confuses me is when people use the TM Travel numbers with no registrations, when there's no logic to these numbers and even TM themselves don't use them!

Agreed re the TM point, i've seen a few postings where TM/ Veolia/ Powells vehicles have been identified by fleet number only, to me (and presumably others) their fleet numbers mean nothing, as there either not used or not in a logical order, whilst the reg (or type of bus even with the fleet number) makes it alot easier to identify the vehicle it relates to. Atleast with FSY/ SIY numbers they follow a logic so its easy to get used to them and remember what type of number relates to what.

Do agree with you with TM Travel. When i spot one i always write reg number down and then have to find Fleetnumber when i get home. Same goes with SCT, as most of the time the number are too small to read. Signs of getting old.
As for Dougie point regarding mis-alocation, i must say i never bother now a days in Barnsley. I Know some people still called them Penistone Man, but everyday you can see them on 226 and on Saturday the allocation on 57/59 had a Solo and Penistone Man on.

Without knowing what the official allocation should, which most on here don't, which is not a bad thing how can most people post misallocations. Thing is the "Penistone MAN" are no longer the preferred type for the Penistone service, so most would see it as a misallocation but it isn't really. Sorry for drifting of topic a little

That was why it was changed from "misallocations" to "unusual sightings" so that people can post what seems unusual to them without having to know what all the correct allocations are.

True but its got to the stage where some people are posting that a B10BLE is unusual sighting on the 52 in Sheffield because its not the correct batch, there is only so far these things can go.

So why do members need to continually ask the phrase "Is this usual"?. It works like this: Route 52 requires 25 buses. All 14 branded B7Ls are available, of the next batch nominally allocated to the 52s 61631-61662 only four are available=18. Give or take another 2-3 B7Ls this leaves 4 boards requiring buses. Vehicles left are B10Ls/BLEs/B7TLs/Olympians/B6s. Which are the true miss-allocations?.

Just to make a point most routes at Barnsley depot are done to meet the SQP, the only buses for a set route are the branded stuff. Mostly anything else that meets the SQP goes, which is the reason folk see "Penistone MAN's" on many various routes.

AFAIAC it is because it very rarely happens and it isn't even correct. (not low floor).

Vehicles left are B10Ls/BLEs/B7TLs/Olympians/B6s. Which are the true miss-allocations?. Olympian - high floor; B6 - too short; B7TL - double deck; B10L - not low floor (or am I thinking of Scania) I know not many people look at the suggested vehicle type on the running board but surely that should reflect what is generally available? Why have 25 boards of the 52 saying B7L knowing full well that at least four of them are never going to have one on there? The same with the X15 - the board suggests Olympian yet every day it is a B7TL.

Problem is I don't think it will be well known that daily they will be 4 short, some days you could have 6 too many but the day after you could be 9 short. The bus type is always meant to be taken as a guide really.

Well in regards to the 52. I would class: 52 branded B7Ls, unbranded B7Ls, unbranded B7RLEs, B7TLs, unbranded B9TLs and unbranded B10BLEs as the normal allocation. Anything else I would personally call unusual/incorrect.

Now i know why people have stopped posting on here. Just look at Replys 19-28 and boy why would you. You have just listed for the 52, now times it by all the routes in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley and you would need a computer to know everything.
