Between Brook Hill Underpass and Netherthorpe Road on 31/03 and 01/04. Blue and Yellow Trams will run from Halfway or Meadowhall to Cathedral and Purples will be normal. Trams will also Interwork between Shalesmoor and Malin Bridge/Middlewood. Buses will replace Trams between Fitzalan Square and Shalesmoor, stopping nearest to Tram Stops has possible. Last time the route was Haymarket, up Church Street and West Street, down Netherthorpe Road, Shalesmoor up to Infirmary Road, near Tram Stop and back to town via Gibralter Street.

Interesting stuff and I assume this is what the reserve buses are waiting upon to see if they are to be called into action over the summer? The tram-trains modification works are needed anyway given that project is going ahead but it is good to see that funding has also been submitted for modifications to the rest of the network at the same time. Looks like if approved this summer could be quite hectic on the trams.

How come the trams will be hectic come the summer and what are the reserve buses going to be used for?

How come the trams will be hectic come the summer and what are the reserve buses going to be used for? Basically major work is required as 13km of track is almost at the safety critical point where a derailment could occur. The changes proposed but not yet finalised include shutting down the southern section of the Blue route or closing down the entire system. It all depends on the situation with the grant from the DfT. That's why the 30+ MAN ALX300s are gearing up for tram replacement services in the summer. The work scheduled for this year includes Albert Terrace Road City Hall Granville Road Park Grange Road Ridgeway Road Ripley Street Shalesmoor The bid submission warns that " if no works are carried out a substantial part of the system will close in the summer of 2013 when the wear reaches a point where derailments are possible."

This does sound a bit worrying. Considering Ecclesfield use E400's on Tram Replacement could these ALX 300's go on 52 & 120 freeing up the hybrid's for this work with their extra capacity & could it also be another reason for the ex Manchester E400's?

Certainly does sound worrying and begs the question if they are in such a state why SYPTE/Supertram haven't replaced the points/track prior to now. Who actually owns the infrastructure, is it SYPTE or Stagecoach?

www.supertram.com/latestfromsupertram_8110.htmlThe link above contains details of the first major replacement of street running track which is to commence in June/July on the section from Park Grange Croft to Spring Lane and is expected to take 12 weeks. The work is part of a £32m programme of track replacement over the next five years.
