I dont think that optare excel will get broken up looks like its for sale as its not been touched yet. Powells bus have got the fastest excels on the planet. Could it not just be there to have spare parts fitted?

If it was there to have parts fitted why have they removed the destination blinds and all fleetnames?

Whay do they keep buying step entrance double deckers when there are enough low floor deckers available, either out of London or other operators. Look at M Travel in Castleford, gone from a virtually all high floor fleet to a virtually all low floor fleet using ex NCT & London deckers. The problem with buying low-floor 'deckers is that the only types coming up for sale that are both numerous and cheap enough for independents are B7TLs and Tridents. Engineers rarely have anything good to say about either type, and the fuel consumption compared to older Olympians and the like is eye-watering (this is why my current part-time employers rejected low-floor 'deckers and went for ex-Lothian Olympians instead). By the time the law forces most operators down the low-floor route independents will have the current generation of B9TLs, Enviros etc to choose from, having the advantage of being altogether better and more economical than their predecessors.

Thats a good point greenbus and its understandable why smaller independents who dont have much cash flow still buy step-entrance buses.

It isn't so bad for single-deckers, a midibus such as a Dart (although my preference would always be for MAN chassis) can accommodate almost the same number of passengers as a full-size, heavyweight single-decker with much lighter fuel consumption and lower maintenance costs, so that option is available for independents, but it's quite difficult to see why anyone would want a B7TL, for instance, over its far superior predecessor.

It's good to see L246 SDY in service. Always loved the early NC Volvo Olymians, in my opinion the best ones ever. Do they just stay on schools, or normal service work, too?? Might try and catch it given the opportunity ..........

The X7 at 18.10 ex Sheffield appears to be Olympian operated at the moment, I presume it will remain the same for the rest of school year 2011/12 unless Powells change the interworkings.

Powells have another ex Stagecoach Volvo Olympian. Reg is N723 LTN & the fleet number is 28. Bus has a flipdot front blind & is in same livery as H802 BKK.
