I read that LHR had 6.9 million passengers in July alone! Impressive stuff, be interesting to hear what the highest passenger footfall total has been for LHR in its entire history (for 1 consecutive calendar month)?

Highest ever single month footfall in its entire history...was how I read the news.

But how can they theoretically "lose" an airport like DSA? It's an ideal airport, especially with regards to the length of the runway, it's just bad timing that it was opened but no one could have foreseen the recession that was sparked just 3 years after DSA first opened. If it's simply due to the recession, why haven't other airports performed just as badly? It is surrounded by LBA, EMA & MAN which is probably a clue? As they say - location, location, location! Probably because DSA has only been open since April 2005 and didn't get the time needed before the recession started to not only recruit airlines into using the airport, but also grow a passenger base?

Despite all of the very reasonable excuses that are made one thing is abundantly clear.....which is that the experts predicted DSA would struggle to achieve the sorts of traffic levels which some pundits predicted were achievable.
With the highest ever level of European funding of any airport there is much at stake!

Thanks for that info Lysander and that is great news, especially given the current climate of the economy. Great stuff.

The problem, Mainline, is that the receipt of all the EU(public) funding must have been based on such business plans as the following: First Full Year of Operation 1.5 million passengers 60,000 tonnes of freight Scheduled flights...7 days a week, spread between 6am and 2 am Scheduled short haul flights to European hub airports This was written in 2004 and is from an impeccable source!
