The easyJet factor is still working its way through DSA's monthly figures. With 99,373 pax the % change compared with same month last year is -7.1% but the % change compared with the same period last year is +9%. With the exception of HUY, all other local airports showed an increase in nos.....LBA has still to be published.

Well that's understandable about easyJet and the former passenger numbers, but at least the trend is starting to turn around now and increase in passenger numbers again. 99,373 pax in June isn't bad going at all, considering the low amount of flights that currently operate out of DSA.

On the number of flight...June with 687... was down 18.4% but on the rolling year basis flights at 6636 are up 10.2%. But, as has frequently been said, statistics aren't everything.

Its the fourth worst month...or the fourth best month....average?! The figures simply show that DSA is wallowing in mediocrity!

Since we are looking at this with a pessimistic view, what was in actual fact the worst month for DSA since opening in 2005?

Comparing like with like DSA's worst June, apart from the month after opening, was 09 with 92,768 and the best was 109,778 in 2007. Nothing especially pessimistic at all...just facts. DSA needs a dose of economic revival....like the rest of South Yorkshire.

It needs a new Yorkshire Based Airline! Or more so a "Donny" based airline.
Coming Soon? Perhaps...

Doubtful. Can't see things getting any better anytime soon sadly, especially with the volatile state that the economy is currently in. Hopefully things will get better from here onwards, but I'll not hold my breath.

Peel Airport's Canadian boss is on record as saying that they have 3 airports....2 of them handle 6 million passengers but he devotes 50% of his time on the problems at MME. His message is "use it or ....it". DSA wasn't mentioned specifically so you can read into that what you like!

It's an ideal airport, especially with regards to the length of the runway, it's just bad timing that it was opened but no one could have foreseen the recession that was sparked just 3 years after DSA first opened.

If it's simply due to the recession, why haven't other airports performed just as badly? It is surrounded by LBA, EMA & MAN which is probably a clue? As they say - location, location, location!

They haven't lost an airport....DSA's less than a million pax was included with LPL's 5 million...to make 6! Even before DSA was opened much expert evidence pointed out the difficulties it was likely to experience in building up both passenger and freight business... and the recession hasn't made it any easier. DSA is more than the Airport, in its owners eyes, it's also about developing a complete ex RAF site... which they are doing with some degree of success.
As Elvis says it's about location...having a long runway ...which few aircraft actually would normally need to use... is no advantage compared with good road/rail links and ,with so many airports within relatively easy reach, DSA is frequently an uncompetitive option....The lack of flights to non leisure destinations doesn't help either. ( as I frequently have said) Wait until the 16th when the CAA release its data and let's see what sort of a month was July
Peel seem to bring an element of bad luck with them...They had only just acquired SCA when 9/11 happened and world aviation suffered ( permanently in SCA's case) and then DSA kops for Lehman Bros and the consequent world economic crisis. Interestingly, July's CAA figures , so I read, will reveal that Heathrow has had its best July...ever!

I read that LHR had 6.9 million passengers in July alone!
