I understand that Virgin....who are hopping mad at the likely concentration of BA slots at Heathrow....are considering making an offer....which is likely to be rejected according to what I read!

Virgin have had their chance time and time again to buy bmi. The last time Richard Branson and Sir Michael Bishop couldn't agree terms.

But, of course, BMi is now controlled by our German cousins isn't it!

Slots are worth lots of money...which is why Virgin are unhappy as the result of this acquisition further concentrates BA's position....at least that's what I read!

Do they have slots that BA want or something, can't see it been about the routes they operate somehow. Ironically despite being loss making, some of the routes that BMI now operate after a change of strategy and the purchase of BA franchise, BMED, a few years ago are actually of interest to BA as there is little overlap with the current BA network. Routes such as Beirut, Jeddah and Riyadh and Amman.

It also allows for further expansion from their hub at Heathrow. Slots which are very hard to come by, which is probably why they have gone through with the deal.

Virgin has made a bid for BMI....Lufthansa now has two offers on the table and will assess them before deciding...so BMI hasn't yet gone to BA!

Interesting development, will be one to keep an eye on to see which way it all pans out, especially with the threat of legal action from Virgin. Is it just the two so far now then, surprised we have not seen more - more so for the slots at Heathrow rather than the actual destinations/routes presently served.
