Happened to me a long time ago when the Boat train to Harwich ran out of fuel in deepest Suffolk. The ferry was held up until the replacement DMU arrived with lots of anxious, less than happy bunnies!

I caught the 1834 from York to Southampton cross country today - not a good move.
We were told at York before it arrived it would not go via Doncaster but no reason was given , were routed via the line that goes past ferbyrbidge power station . When we got to nr aldwarke we started to run under caution then we got stopped at meaowhall for ages. Indeed there was an announcement for the passanger traveling to scunethorpe to get off. We then got stuck at upwell st there was a 158 in the up loop line ( Sheffield bound) at this stage we were told it was a points failure. Got into Sheffield 1/2 hour late would love to know what the origional divert was far.

Announcements were saying a line inspection, but the EC Thunderbird 67 was sent up and dragged the set into Hexthorpe loop north of Doncaster again. Everything Cross Country was being sent like you did, avoiding Donny and instead straight to Sheffield.
