Arriva's running of bus services in Malta is to end with all the services to be run by the Maltese Government. The Arriva logos are to be removed from 2nd January. Transport Malta will run the services for a while but will eventually ask for expressions of interest from other private operators. Arriva who took over in 2011 are believed to have lost in excess of 50 million euros during it's time in operation.
The buses which have been bought by the government are all current fleet except the ex London Mercedes-Benz Citaro's which were pulled off the road after three caught fire in August.
In Wales Arriva have shut a depot in Aberystwyth & outstations in Dolgellau, New Quay & Lampeter leading to a loss of 33 jobs. Arriva blamed the withdrawls on Government funding cuts in public transport funding & fuel costs. A number of other operators have taken on contracted routes until at least June 2014.

All I can say about Malta is bring back the beat up classic buses!
