It's been a long time since Mainline Group in its heyday, but let's assume that Mainline continued to be a stand-alone business through the years. Where would we be now? For me, I would imagine that the livery would still be very similar and a refreshed logo may have been the way forward for the business. One standard livery but the brands of Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster would have made a return. Events in Sheffield and Rotherham with the Bus Partnerships would still shape the routes we see today and I would imagine the Doncaster network would perhaps be different, maybe more cross-town routes than we see at present. As we know, the chances of Mainline surviving in such a major cash cow area such as South Yorkshire would be nigh on impossible, but it is interesting to see where we would be without First. Even so much as to assume what would have happened had Stagecoach increased their 20% holding at the time. Would we see a role reversal where First picked up Traction whilst Stagecoach took on the old SYT? Anyway, it would be nice to have a bit of fun and see other people's thoughts of the Mainline of 2015!

Major cash cow.... joke of the day. When do you reckon SYT/ Mainline/ FSY was most profitable? (different story now Stagecoach have such a big presence on big corridors in Sheffield, and weekly tickets are about a third cheaper than they used to be, I guess)

Was 10 million a year.

Can still remember that strike. Especially trying to get back from work. Having to fit my shifts between the first and last powells 97s. Waiting on Arundel gate one afternoon along with a fair crowd for the 3:15 bus expecting/hoping for the usual olympian/metrobus and ending up with Wright bodied dart LUI 3787.

I wonder, what if we hadn't had the reorganisation of local Government, South Yorkshire had never been invented and Sheffield Transport Department was still running our trams and buses?( and Rotherham and Donny had their own) Any nice livery options?...always remembering for a short period in the 1950's we had green liveried buses!
