On Saturday 18th June I'm traveling from Sheffield to Ormskirk to go to Edge Hill uni. I'm proposing to get: 6:20 EMT Sheff-Man Picc 7:45 TPE Man Picc-Preston 8:43 Northern Preston-Ormskirk
Anyone know whether I've got anything good in store? Hoping I will do as I've got to get to Rotherham for half 5 (which is impossible from my village)

The 0843 ARN is usually a class 142, however can be a 150 or a 153.

The routeing guide shows this as a valid route, but if you do this on the return as well, bear in mind that the Liverpool loop exists on Wirral line which serves Lime St, and the Northern Line doesn't, but does serve Ormskirk. The Merseyrail to Ormskirk is every 15 mins.

Both options are available... set off at 6:14 and if I go the Merseyrail way I'll get there at 9:44 and if I go the Northern way I'll get there at 9:14, but I have to go either through or stop at Stockport, and its a half an hour walk from the station to the uni so I'm gonna have to take the lovely northern route

The timetable is on the Lancashire County Council website.

Of interest Merseytravel make child fares available for all 16-18 year olds. I've never been asked for ID to prove my age when buying / using Young Persons tickets in Liverpool & surrounding areas.

EL1 is done by South Lancs, and for the train I've got an off peak return. That's £38.10 gone... woo trains

Got to love the independents as lomg as they aren't tates-esque... be nice to have some arriva as I never use them and it'll be nice to get away from the 02 Volvo's first love

Had a TSY branded class 153 from Preston to Ormskirk. Think I'll go the Merseyrail route on the way back. Lovely little wheel-forward streetlite on the EL1. They use the same ticket machines as TM but no one is nearly as friendly as we are in Yorkshire
