Hi All,
New to the forum, but not to South Yorkshire or it's transport!
I've recently come across a number of images of buses in the old SYPTE brown/cream livery, with 'South Yorkshire Transport' branding on the side - I'm figuring these are from the post 1986 period, when SYPTE had to set up an 'arms length company'.
What is causing some confusion however, is that I have also come across some of buses in a cream (mainly)/red livery, with 'South Yorkshire's Transport' branding - are these the same company, or a different one set up at a later date?
For some reason the 's part of the branding also appears to be a different colour to the rest of the wording, and I'm not entirely sure about the use of an apostrophe there... But anyway, I hope someone might be able to clear this up for me.

The 's was added to make the title different.

The apostrophe is indeed correct as it is portraying to be transport for South Yorkshire, so is very much required. Similarly if it was Doncaster's Transport, Sheffield's Transport. Duncan has highlighted the reasons behind it but South Yorkshires Transport is grammatically incorrect.
I use the word portraying in my opening paragraph as Barnsley wasn't exactly frequented by SYT in the same way the other three boroughs were.

Yeah, South Yorkshire's Transport was a play on words in effect. It was getting the point across that they were South Yorkshire's Transport system. Of course, after de-regulation, they were far from the only player but again it probably highlighted SYT's continued dominance at that time. (Aside from in Barnsley as Xtopher) said.

With regards to the Pontefract based company, would that be the same company who apparently used the title 'South Yorkshire Road Transport', who were based in Pontefract? Here I was thinking copyright claims and pettiness between companies over names was a modern thing...!

Never understood it at the time , but it was brought in when SYT changed their logo and slightly changed their livery adding dark orange etc ...not sure if they ever completed it as they decided to try to repaint them all again after they settled on Mainline's yellow a couple or so years later...
