Problem is a lot of the big name company's do not have the staff or vehicles to pick up Brightbus's work and a lot of Brightbus drivers will not want to go back full time bus driving on normal stage carriage with many part time and some retired just earning pin money.

My sympathy is with those who work there, but at least they will get some reasonable redundancy.
It'll be interesting to see how things play out - I suspect there will be some gaps left behind, but perhaps some of the local coach companies will be willing to take up the work.
While the article claims the business is profitable, and I'm sure it is, the fact is that the fleet is very old and there's not a lot of replacement used vehicles on the market with the sort of capacity the ex Hong Kong vehicles offer. I don't doubt that would have caused them (expensive) problems in the next few years.

Councils don't have a lot of spare cash these days, so any operator leaving the "schools" market may push prices up, which may affect other tendered services.
Sad news for those involved - I was slightly surprised to see the owner rule out selling the business but then it's his business, not mine - maybe there aren't sufficient assets to make a sell worthwhile (contracts coming to an end, not a lot of resale value on some of the older vehicles).
It's certainly going to make the morning rush hour less colourful anyhow!

Does any1 know what's going to happen to the brightbus fleet afta closure. Am guessing it's going to be a mixture of scrapping and selling?

I've no idea what will happen to the fleet.... But I understand that there should be some announcements about who's going to fill the gaps left by the demise of Brightbus this week....

A lot of their services have already been given to First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach from the 3rd of September according to VOSA probably with more for them to be announced.

Noted one of the buses on tow heading to one of the Carlton Scrapyards today. Was too far away to get an I.D.

Most of it's ready for the scrapyard in the sky, if not all One or two of the more recent vehicles have found new homes.
