Electrification of the Midland Main Line to Nottingham & Sheffield as been scrapped by this dam Tory government who don't care about the Midlands & North. But will they scrap Cross Rail NOT BLOODY LIKELY ITS THE South East / London... It makes a mockery of HS2..... Bloody Tories....

I think Duncan is right.
All they've done on the MML is raise a handful of bridges around Kettering (to accommodate electrification clearances), so it's much easier to cancel it (than a project that is 90% built like Crossrail).
I'd love to see the MML wired, but the overspend and delays on the GWML mean there's no money left for other schemes.

The government can find 56 billion for a white elephant called HS2
56 billion to destroy the country side
56 billion to destroy a new housing scheme
56 billion to destroy small & medium businesses
56 billion to destroy farming communities
also find 1 billion to give to the DUP to keep this government in power
But cannot find a few million to electrify the midland to Sheffield & Nottingham or Western Region between Cardiff & Swansea or to windermere.. But can find 56 billion for the white elephant called HS2 .
Need I say anymore....

The government is planning on bimodal rolling stock for the midland mainline... There is one way this could be achieved quickly and that's by diverting some class 800's from the east coast mainline and the East coast retaining the class 91 fleet. |

It's Crossrail 2 that is being continued at a cost of £30bn. Construction hasn't started on that yet.
