Just for a bit of nostalgia I'm trying to compile a list of former old bus routes across Sheffield (and this could be extended across South Yorkshire) and wondering if anyone could add any information/fill in gaps to provide a comprehensive list of former services what used to operate?
To get the ball rolling, former frequent services in Sheffield that no longer directly operate were:
- 13/14 City to Wisewood/Loxley via Hillsborough From Pond Street to Hillsborough via Langsett Road, then up Dykes Hall Road as far as the former Wisewood School, then split with the 13 turning left onto Hallowmoor Road and the 14 carrying straight across to the Loxley loop.
- 36 City to Batemoor via Hutcliffe Wood From Pond Street to Beauchief via Abbeydale Road and Archer Road, then straight up Greenhill Avenue to Meadowhead and then down Chesterfield Road South, through the Batemoor bus gate and around the Batemoor loop to terminate outside the ambulance station / Batemoor pub (now a supermarket). Was replaced with the 502 in the early 90s which ran from Meadowhall to Batemoor along with the 501 (501 ran via Woodseats Road and Chesterfield Road, rather than Hutcliffe Wood Road).
- 70/71 City to Prince of Wales Road Circular via Darnall/Norfolk Park From Pond Street the 70 ran OUT via Norfolk Park and IN via Darnall and the 71 ran OUT via Darnall and IN via Norfolk Park and ran a circular service along Staniforth Road, Prince of Wales Road, City Road and Park Grange Road. Was once as frequent as the 52 service (every 5-6 mins at peak times each way around the loop). Now there is no service along Park Grange Road and only the hourly 18 along Prince of Wales Road. Staniforth Road is the only corridor left unscathed from the withdrawal.
- 89 City to Parson Cross via Hillsborough From Pond Street this service ran direct to Hillsborough Corner via Langsett Road, then ran up Halifax Road as far as Deerlands Avenue, before turning left onto Yew Lane and turning at Chaucer Road. Used to operate every 10 minutes along with the 79 which ran around different areas of Parson Cross (Colley Crescent) before then proceeding down Penistone Road into city.
Are there any other services people can think of which no longer operate? Can be frequent or in-frequent.

Not just South Yorkshire but Stagecoach used to operate a 72? Service Chesterfield- Meadowhall via crystal peaks, Handsworth and Darnall, can vaguely remember it used to turn off of Greenland road just before the junction with Shepcote lane and go through the housing estate down to attercliffe road. This was before Stagecoach started operating in Sheffield too.

Seems a long time ago now, but there was competition from Crystal Peaks to Meadowhall, with the EMMS 72 every hour or the Sheafline 469/470/471 up to every half hour

If anything the 28 was the 72s successor when East Midlands pulled back, also Mainline ended up with a Sunday only working on the 72 from Halfway to Chesterfield via the ridiculous Slayley View Rd loop with those 14 massive speed humps. It was part of the evening/weekend 70 Chesterfield-Killamarsh tender Mainline had.
