If they just got on with building a railway line to the airport the buses wouldn't be needed so much. To be honest, buses aren't needed. Look at the pitiful loadings on them. Paying millions for a railway line to do the same would just be throwing good money after bad.

There is very little here that is direct competition for the X1. What First and some enthusiasts are not grasping is that there is very little through traffic past Rotherham in either direction outside the rush hour. The X6 is no more than amusing, a "direct" service that veers off to serve an area with virtually no requirement for a service. Check the factories at Waverley, the car parks are always full and the buses are always empty. At times this will put up to 10 minutes on the journey time for no or little reward. Still it has to be busier than the current incarnation the 737. That has cornered the market in fresh air. What's even more amusing is that the X6 has an element of funding paid for by Sheffield City Region! Whilst the country is struggling to fund the NHS tax payers money is wasted on this just because politicians want a direct link to DSA from Sheffield! If I was Powell's I would be complaining that a funded service is undermining their X7! Yet another good example of why politicians should be kept away from buses.

The railway line isn't just for the airport it is for the expansion of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the retail/office units next to the airport. It is vital the rail link is made for the area the wildlife park is a huge attraction now and needs an alternative to the current car only way of getting there.

I'd be interested if the X6 drops off near the Wildlife Park as I'd be tempted to do a day out from Sheffield a few times a year. But I'm not sure that one train station is going to serve the Wildlife Park *and* Airport (a couple of miles apart?). I'm sure that Peel will be delighted with yet another proposal for large sums of public money to pay for something that makes the land that Peel properties lie on more valuable (for Peel)! On the subject of the X6, , I'm wondering whether Stagecoach have noticed that the improved TM 30 has taken trade from the 52 in Handsworth and want a bigger slice of that pie? I can see some logic in the idea of a link to the Adanced Manufacturing Park for Doncaster residents and a link to the "iPort" for Sheffield/ Rotherham - a bit like the "JobLink" services that we had about fifteen years ago, when the PTE was flush with public money to spend on non-essential services.

If you look at the expansion plans for Yorkshire Wildlife Park you will see the plans to move the entrance nearer to the airport and plans to share any rail link. www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com/expansion-plans-approved/

True - surprising that the 52 is so frequent on that stretch, given that the 30/ X5/X55 are relatively frequent (but with an annoying gap of half an hour between X5s due to interworking with the X54)

Best I have seen so far was 2 passengers, I think the rush hour gaps are taking their toll.
