Lord help us, I do wish the would leave x1's and x10's alone. They are always trying to mess with something. You get use to one thing then they change it again. Just run the x1 between Rotherham and Maltby via Herringthorpe. the increase the frequency of the x78 to every ten minutes like it use to be. No the X1 isn't performing as it should be because two often turn up together. Could the X1 be extended once hourly beyond Maltby to Ravenfield to replace the 113? Lets be honest the tram train hasn't proved to be reliable recently, (partly a network rail issue I know!) but messing again with the x1 hmm not sure! The x1 is any essential back up for the tram train in my view! Any thoughts?

Oof... just when you think First have tidied things up and that all of the cuts at least meant a stable network with co-ordinated services (e.g. the 115/116 were both lower than the separate services once were, but a ten minute frequency along Doncaster Road was worthwhile) they go and shake it up again (so Doncaster Road will have gaps of up to twenty minutes).
I appreciate that the TramTrain will have taken some of the Rotherham - Sheffield market but the combined X1/X78 will be no better than the X78 alone used to be (albeit that the X78 was every ten minutes, whilst the X1/X78 will be a fifteen minute service plus a half hourly service, so gaps of every fifteen minutes), i.e. the 69 was every twenty minutes but not replaced.
The Sheffield/ Meadowhall/ Brinsworth triangle gets yet another shake up with the 74 diverted to Meadowhall too (will this be Rotherham - Meadowhall - Brinsworth -Sheffield, i.e. avoiding Canklow Road)? SYT/ Mainline/ First could never make their mind up about how to tick the various boxes with one simple service.
The 208 diverted via Wickersley? Can't be because of the Stagecoach X6 - that never seems busy!

Any thoughts? The X1 was introduced as a means of running Maltby services from Sheffield in order to facilitate the closure of Rotherham depot ( a long standing ambition of some at FSY), It takes in the failed BRT ( remember that) and stands as a reminder that politicians should be kept away from transport projects. In real honest terms the tram train has not been a success, its figures recently announced have only been achieved by running it directly in front of the existing meadowhall service. If you look at the loadings at Parkgate they are mainly concessions that should not actually be on the trams if the rules were applied correctly. There is short sightedness from First and delusions of competence from SYPTE and we wonder why services are failing. The real question is, how on earth are some still working?

I agree to a point, the TT has taken some of the X1's custom and that numbers of people using the buses are fewer than they use to be. However the reliability of the X1 in terms of it's punctuality leaves one heck of a lot to answer for. I recently waited 50 minutes at Wickersly for one and guess what two came together! The need to be appropriately controlled. I.e. drop off only what they become so late. Customers are not going to use the buses as much if they become unreliable and expensive. On top of that they keep changing things, which adds to the confusion. I think the key is probably to run slightly fewer buses and run them properly. First are not to blame for the introduction, and I agree partial failure of the TT, but they need to look at their own shortcomings with the X1 and improve it's reputation, and I think people will start using it again. There may be a good reason for this I don't know, but why run an X10 terminating at either Meadowhall or Rotherham? Just an Idea run the X1 every twenty minutes doing the whole route, (including Herringthorpe) and forget the x10. Simplify a confusing timetable. If there isn't enough demand for Sheffield to be served by three buses, then turn one of the into an X11 that just goes Rotherham to Maltby and possibly onto Revenfield to replace the 113. As for the TT, I do think it's been a bit of a disaster recently broken down trams, staff shortages and network rail issues. I really want to be a success, but I fear it could be a flop. To be fair to First the X1 always seems to have to step up when the TT goes wrong, and I have seen more double decker's on X78's recently. Thank you Doncaster!

The damage was done to the Maltby service years ago, I like many other former customers dont even consider using the bus, its just an annoyance for car users now, getting in our way and carrying next to nobody. How to kill a bus service could be written about the Maltby service over the last 10 years or so.

Just to clarify:
X1/X10 - now run Sheffield to Maltby. 10/20 min service between Sheffield and Rotherham, with a 10 min service between Rotherham and Maltby. X1 will run as now and all services will terminate at White City. X10 will run as now as far as Queens Corner, then run to Chadwick Drive via Salisbury Road. Most X10s will commence/run through to Sheffield.
22A/22C - Services reduced to 20 minutes at peak times and every 40 minutes at off-peak.
74 - Remaining the same. 208 will continue to service Brinsworth with Meadowhall and Attercliffe.
113 - Replaced between Rotherham, Broom Valley and Wickersley with the new Powells 3 service. This will run from Cedar Drive to Parkgate via Rotherham. Rotherham Hospital is covered with the new First SY 10 service.
116 - Remaining the same 20 minute frequency, to co-ordinate a 10 minute service with 115 along Doncaster Road.
208 - Service re-routed via Wickersley. Minor changes to timetable.

Isn't this interesting, there was great disquiet when First scraped the old service 10 via the hospital in Rotherham, it's now making a comeback according to another thread. The X1 and X10 are staying similar to what they are now with what looks like the possibility of a slight reduction on some X1's at quieter periods of the day. Powells effectively taking over parts of the 113 and presumably making it viable. Many people told First that scrapping the service 10 was a bad idea, it's finally being corrected. I wonder how many people that come up with these route ideas actually use the buses? Because many times after the inconvenience has finally been established the company will revert back to the old ways. All this talk of the X1 not being used as much and after consultation it appears to have hardly changed at all. The 116 is remaining the same despite First claiming that a reduction down to 30 minutes was on the cards. As for the 208, why it's going through Wickersley not sure why with all the buses already going through there? But anyway... Lets see how long things survive as they are left alone this time, before someone else has another "bright idea." Great news as a whole though services staying broadly the same, with a few sensible improvements!

Great news as a whole though services staying broadly the same, with a few sensible improvements! Service 10 is also serving Broom Valley Road and Beaconsfield Road between Rotherham Interchange and Rotherham Hospital. It will not serve Flanderwell and Sunnyside however, as this is being retained with the X10. X1/X10 will run pretty much the same as present between Sheffield and Maltby, Queens Corner. All X1s will then serve White City and Model Village, with the X10 serving Salisbury Road. There will be a combined 6bph between the two services, with 2 X1 services per hour truncating at Rotherham Interchange. This will leave a 10/20 min service in operation between Rotherham Interchange and Sheffield City Centre. X78 will remain a 15 minute Monday-Saturday daytime service, with additional running times between Rotherham and Meadowhall due to the College Road roundabout works. Regarding the 208, I believe this is due to the fact it will also link Wickersley School with Brinsworth and the local amenities around the locality. A positive changes in my view!

Linking the schools is positive yes, I am just concerned about the number of buses going through Wickersley 10, 19/A, X1 X10 and X6, How many services does one place need? I love the speed of the X6 though! The X78 timetable leaflet also says double decks will be introduced as the norm! Not too soon. Wickersley have all these different services whist Stainton has lost it's 10A! and Whiston village has lost it's direct link to Meadowhall and Sheffield. Over all positive with most reductions scaled back, just not sure about Wickersly in terms of saturation. In terms of the customer consultation I'm really glad that most services levels are remaining! I think after FSY's recent performance, cuts and inconvenience for the paying customer would have been a very hard sell for First, and the customer has said no.
