Another Rotherham scheme put forward is a permanent tram-train service between Sheffield and Rotherham, extending the network to Doncaster and Doncaster Sheffield Airport, via Swinton. If this does indeed happen, it would probably make more sense to keep Rotherham Central open as a tram-train station only and have the new mainline services, serving the new station.
