Bit of history here,
I grew up in Whiston, and I remember when I was younger (we’re talking 2005-2010 really) the 34 used to go down into the ‘Old Village’ (where the Sitwell Pub is) on request by carrying on down Moorhouse Lane.
Was this official, and if so was it actually in the timetable; or was it something unofficial? It did happen a lot so I’m certain it wasn’t just one kind driver.

Hi sorry for the late reply but I do believe a few journeys in the old 34 went as far as the chequers pub in Whiston but not many it was one way loop around d the pub and back and there still is an old shelter which is now used by the current 21 to Harthill
