Tonight a bus driver told a teenage girl who went three stops on a bus route that she could have walked.
Now it's 2023 there are concerns over females walking in the dark after incidents in the past few years, I don't think saying to a timid girl aged around 13 or 14 she could have walked, when it would have meant going by an unlit park is really a great idea.
Now he was probably just joking but it isn't really a driver's business when someone gets off, he could have made her feel embarrassed and next week she might walk and something happen.

Gender shouldn't be brought in to it. But, yes it was unprofessional of the driver to say that and disuading passengers is bad for the profits of the business. No big deal though.

It's hard to imagine this would have happened in more competitive times. Back then every fare mattered and rival driver almost fought each other for every passenger. The spirit of competition has gone right out of the bus industry and it's passengers who have paid the price with higher fares and fewer buses.
