This is just a quick enquiry. Does anyone know if on a Saturday evening routes 81/82 are supported by the PTE or are fully commercial?
The reason I ask is that buses have been either missing or late on these routes on numerous occasions. I know there are times and places where traffic congestion genuinely causes problems with punctuality, and I think most reasonable people acknowledge this. However, in all honesty Stannington or Hall park Head on a Saturday night is not either the time or the place. To put it bluntly some bus drivers are 'swinging the lead'. They are working in an unsupervised environment and quite frankly taking the mickey. I hasten to add this is not all bus drivers but it has happened a fair number of times.
If it is not a commercial service I am doubtful about how much First will actually care as they are being paid irrespective of poor service. On the other hand if it is supported then the PTE might be interested to know just how public money is being spent and perhaps might intervene with First in an attempt to improve matters for the future.
Please bare in mind that for many people Saturday night is a much valued night out in town and with a virtual skeleton service operating anyway a single missing, or even late, bus can substantially eat into our time out.
Thanks in advance for any info received.

Supported after 20:30 departure (daily). No changes forthcoming from the October 2023 service changes.

Thank you that answers my original question. So, here is another, if a bus is missing or late due to a driver driving far too slow, is it worth contacting the PTE to complain considering they are paying for it?
