Does anyone know what route the Yorkshire Terrier 49 took please? flickr.com/photos/181868521@N08/49782089721/in/faves-141679933@N03/ I can see here that it seemed to run the opposite direction to Mainline buses on the Herdings loop, but where from there? Was it down Newfield Green, Myrtle Road, Charlotte Road and Moorfoot or did it go on Queen's Road? Did it terminate in town or go on somewhere else? Thanks. Cross Scythe

Years earlier, South Riding introduced a 46 (City - Heeley - Leighton Road - Charnock - Base Green, which evolved into Hillsborough - Crystal Peaks)
With that route doing the eastern side of the Herdings loop that the Mainline 47/48 did, South Riding introduced a service on the western side, the 49, which ran via Valley Road on the Heeley/ Meersbrook border, the route used by the present day10/10a and Blackstock Road to terminate at the Herdings terminus
Later on (at the time the 46 was withdrawn, and South Riding was amalgamated into Terrier?) the 49/49a became circulars around Herdings like the 47/48 (but still via Heeley rather than the East Bank Road route that the 47/48 took), and it was extended to Parson Cross to replace the Terrier 10 (presumably because the tram/ house clearances had ruined a good chunk of the 10’s trade through Norfolk Park etc
I think the 49’s route in the city centre was similar to the present day TM 252 (Moor > Arundel Gate > Haymarket > Flat Street > Furnival Street > Moor), before the Parson Cross extension - that meant they served similar stops to the 47/48 towards Herdings but the stop near the Cruicible was handier for Fargate shoppers etc

Similar to the 1a route then I suppose. I am sure I remember the number 10 running to Parson Cross around 1998 but then I think it served Darnall at the other side...? Quite the Mish mash!

Similar to the 1a route then I suppose. I am sure I remember the number 10 running to Parson Cross around 1998 but then I think it served Darnall at the other side...? Quite the Mish mash! In the early years of deregulation, sut ran a 100 (Darnall > Price Of Wales Road > Manor Top > Norfolk Park > City). From memory, this served a The Moor etc, whereas the long established SYT 70/71 ran to/ from the bus station via Suffolk Road, so less good for the main shopping area. After that was withdrawn, Yorkshire Terrier introduced a 10 that was similar to the 100 but extended north of the city to Parson Cross similar to the route of the current First 20. That gave a link to the Northern General for the south east of the city at a time when the majority of hospital buses ran cross-city on the London Road corridor. The Parson Cross loop was a bit like the current day 32 north of Deerlands (remember, this was before ASDA opened up that way, so a direct link to the shops at Margetson Crescent was more valued, as I guess was the Hospital link considering most of the SYT services to Parson Cross across ran via Hillbrorough/ Owlerton instead SYT fought back by extending some 97s north of Southey Green, … Mainline went further with a 711 (that replaced short journeys in the 70/71 at the Darnall end and extended to Parson Cross at the northern end)… Terrier fought back with an 11 to Parson Cross and an extension of the 127 north of the city centre… I guess that this was at the same time that Mainline and Sheffield Omnibus both ran every fifteen minutes along the length of Deerlands (17 and 18 respectively). Feels a thousand years ago
