At this cold time of year would people like the idea od some form of heating in bus shelters? Perhaps patio style heaters. Views please.

Obviously it would be nice on a cold morning but in reality no, it’s not where I’d like to see funding going

I think they should all have catering facilities too, so you can grab a warm sandwich or snack while waiting too.

Great idea ... Oh wait, we cannot even get operators to fix heating on cold buses. That would be a good start. Especially if repairs were mandatory by VOSA.

Bus shelters are not a place to spend long enough to need to get warm. I do despair, have you seen bus shelters most of them are vandalised, or barely standing, in this day and age of live times people shouldn't need them in most areas. How do you propose to heat a shelter that has a whole side open, if it's below freezing do you really think heaters are going to beat those temperatures, maybe we could have aircon in them in the summer as well. I am assuming this thread must be a wind up because no one can seriously believe in such nonsense.

We are being told we will have to wait longer for buses, many services in evenings and Sundays are 2 hourly. Surely the waiting environment being more pleasant is a reasonable request. Either that or sort the frequencies out.

Either that or sort the frequencies out. Sometimes people need to use their own common sense without being prompted to do so. If you turn up for a bus thats got a 2-hourly frequency an hour and half before its due, you shouldn't expect the taxpayer to bail you out with a heater in a shelter that at best has 3 sides and a roof on it with big gaps at every corner/join! Adjust your journey times to arrive at the bus stop a few minutes before (which is what is recommended), and dress appropriatley for the conditions.

It's not always possible to know the times of the bus service you intend to take until you arrive at the shelter, especially if you haven't used the route before. Though a heater may not be viable, the big hole in the side you speak of could be filled in with a wheelchair friendly sliding door and we could have some more FLAT (not two steel poles at an angle) seats put in. Most people who visit South Yorkshire from other areas don't expect the 'unique' 2 hour waiting period. All this talk you bring of bailing out and memorising timetables, you seem to forget that buses run for the customer, not the other way around. Good customer service goes along way.
