Report on 1987 syt service changes. Changes have been made at a relentless rate to this operaters services since deregulation.With fares which are still on the low side in national terms sut might have been expected to see less competition than other metropolitan areas,but a reasonable number of rival services has appeared.Competition for tendered services has, apparently been more intense.This and a £2 million loss during the first year of operation,have forced the company into a cost cutting program another 309 jobs are to disappear east bank depot is to close,and uneconomical mileage is to be deregistered.The opening of the crystal peaks shopping centre in mosborough will also bring about more changes to add to this long list.
1 city sandstone rd from 07/09/87 diverted via Barnsley rd and hucklow rd instead of stubbin lane. 4 city firth park withdrawn 28/07/87 replaced by extending 93. 5 Sheffield Strines circle ran as previous years from 03/05/87-29/09/87 on the first 4 Sundays no fares were charged due to late registration of the service. 8/9 inner circle from 08/11/87 most journeys terminating at heeley were extended via queen's rd to east bank depot. 10 CBS Granville rd manor lane CBS 11 reverse of 11 new service from 28/07/87 replacing 56 and part of 96 and from 01/11/87 replacing N1 via at Adina rd and Syke edge.Dennis dominos replacing dodges due to capacity issues from 11/01/88. 21 city parkway market withdrawn 28/07/87 replaced by 96. 23/32 city Woodhouse Handsworth circle.from 18/05/87 M-S journeys before 1800 were diverted via Norfolk park (70/71 route) in order to complete with SUT 100 these were renumbered 723/732. 2-3 journeys each way still followed the old route mainly for school children.This move proved unpopular and from 01/11/87, 723/732 disappeared 23 now runs out from city via Granville rd Fitzwater rd and elm tree and inwards via elm tree and Norfolk park all day,with 32 following the reverse route.Wilfric rd is now served by 260/261. The frequent changes to these and other Greenland depot routes, especially 70/71 have provoked a lot of criticism,as a number of links to post offices etc,have been broken while there main purpose,to complete with SUT,has not gone unremarked by customers.One Woodhouse CBS journey 1509 M-f was taken over by Sheffield and District on tender from 07/09/87.
24 0815 city abbydale Grange school and 1531 return taken over by Sheffield and District from 07/09/87. 26 city Beauchief withdrawn Eve and sun 13/09/87 replaced by 37. 27 city dyke vale road extended hourly M-S from 27/04/87 via waterthorpe and Westfield to halfway depot . 33 shirecliffe city Fulwood from 03/05/87 Sheffield and District have operated an hourly city Fulwood service M-S not peaks on tender.the daytime services is new and partly restores the d day cuts the evening service is taken over by SYT.From 07/09/87 two pm shirecliffe college city M-F journeys taken over by groves.
33 Staveley junior school mastin moor school new service won on tender from Derbyshire from 04/01/88.
35 city sandstone rd Eve and sun deregistrated 12/07/87 replaced by M37 . 37 city batemoor alternate Eve su journeys diverted via abbydale rd south Abby lane and bocking lane from 13/09/87 to replace Eve/ sun service 26.from 09/11/87 2 M-F peak journeys extended to coal Aston these were further extended to Dronfield Snape hill lane from 08/02/88 to augmented minibus D1. 40 city greystones Norton renumbered 774 from 05/01/87.some pm peak journeys reintroduced by November 1987 service was only AM from dereg. 41 city Hackenthorpe diverted via Granville rd from 23/03/87.
47/48 city shiregreen.This was the first route in Sheffield to experience competition (from groves) and has undergone a bewildering series of changes in an attempt to keep one step ahead of the opposition.From 09/02/87 the M-S daytime service was replaced by 747/748. 747 started from flat street the existing terminus,outwards direct and inwards via a city centre loop(high street pinstone street etc).748 started from CBS ,about 100 yards from 747 terminus,and ran outwards via city loop and in direct.47/48,when running was diverted via nursery street and Wingate instead of corporation street and snig hill,except M-S early mornings.sounds confusing?it was so many passengers turned up at the discontinued stops that a free angel street brighouse's shuttle had to be operated for the first day or two.From 03/03/87 the use of the city centre loop and use of numbers 746/748 was discontinued.
49 city Wordsworth avenue this route passed to Sheffield and District on deregulation,but from 09/03/87 syt put two buses back on the route, running with the flow during M-S daytime's (as the runny time is 39 mins a full service would have required an extra bus).The am peak service was withdrawn from 07/09/87.SYT have now deregistrated 49 it will cease during march 1988.
52 Crookes city Woodhouse from 28/06/87 one M-F peak journeys each way runs non stop city Darnell via the parkway numbered 552.
56 city wybourn withdrawn 28/06/87 replaced by 10/11.
57 Sheffield Stocksbridge An hourly service diverted via east Whitwell as 58 from 07/06/87.from 14/09/87 the 0755 ex CBS and 1635 ex stocksbridge college journeys won by east midland on tender.
60 city crimicar lane.from 11/04/87 extra minibus journeys introduced every 15 mins m-s daytime, extended through to lodge moor hospital where they enter the grounds to compete with Sheffield and District serv 6.from 21/09/87 these journeys renumbered M60,and ESU and early morning big bus journeys were also extended to the hospital but not in the grounds.two sch CBS Notre dame schools journeys won by Sheffield and District from 07/09/87 these are still numbered 60 despite being identical to there srv 6.To complicate matters further,SYT then registered the affected journeys commercially.
70/71 city pow circle from 01/09/87 frequency halved now 20 mins M-S daytime,30 mins ESU on each route. In Darnell diverted via Wilfrid rd Eleanor street and Greenland way to replace 96.70 is diverted in city via paternoster row Eyre street and at Mary's rd and 71 via at Mary's rd Eyre street and Arundel gate.
73 city high green the occasion journeys to wortley and how took were withdrawn from d day.Diverted via greengate lane and terminal loop at high green revised.
74 city burncross high green m-s daytime.new unadvertised route from 26/10/87, running a few minutes ahead of some journeys on groves 74 at sub standard fares.may have been withdrawn during February 1988. 75 bradway lane top extended to ecclesfield as 76 12/07/87. 80 city high green extended from 03/05/87 via hollow gate to burncross and back to city journeys in reverse direction numbered 77. Each route every 30 mins m-s daytime hourly esu.both 77/80 diverted via Bevan way and himself rd in chapeltown to replace 78 city park view estate chapeltown which is reduced to m-f peaks .
79/89 city parson cross yew lane circle from 03/05/87 extended from bridge Street to furnival gate inwards via high street and pinstone street outwards via Arundel gate.m-s journeys from 0900-1600 diverted via Hillsborough instead of penistone rd and numbered 779/789.part of m-s Eve service taken over by Sheffield and District under tender.These were poorly timed and duplicated syt journeys until 07/09/87 when s & d took over all the evening journeys on 79 and syt resumed the whole of 89. 81/82 middlewood city ringing low from 03/05/87 some ringing low journeys reversed to run anti clockwise around ringing low loop. 84 Roscoe bank Ecclesall some m-s Eve Roscoe bank city journeys taken over by Sheffield and District on tender from 05/05/87.
91 city greengate lane circle from 26/01/87 two m-f peak journeys reintroduced on this route which was taken over by Sheffield and District from d day.These were minibus operated but we're withdrawn from 07/09/87. 92 city woodthorpe withdrawn 28/06/87 replaced by M26/M27. 93 Woodhouse city extended to firth park 28/06/87 replacing SVC 4. 96 city Darnell from 28/06/87 diverted via broad Street and cricket Inn rd instead of Hyde park replaced by 10/11.Double runs to parkway industrial estate m-f daytimes and 5 am.converted to minibus operation . Additionally some m-f peak journeys run on to parkway market , replacing 21.also diverted via Worksop rd and Darnell rd instead of Wilfrid rd.withdrawn except for peak journeys to parkway industrial estate from 25/10/87 replaced by 70/71 and M28/M29.
Syt service changes 1987/88.
X11/202 Sheffield chesterfield 202(Sheffield gosforth chesterfield),204 ( Sheffield coal Aston chesterfield),M-S.SYT deregistrated these services joint with chesterfield transport,08/11/87 CT took over X11 and 203(ESU only).202 was withdrawn apart from a few early journeys,run by CT except for one tendered early morning Sheffield Dronfield return trip which SYT still run.204 was withdrawn entirely ( although CT have since reinstated much if it). Replacements were minibuses D1-D3 and new services south of Dronfield run by CT.
203 Gainsborough/Retford north leverton sundown pets corner lound hall walesby owlerton edwinstowe Sherwood forest.part if the Sherwood forester network ran from 24/05/87-31/08/87.
252 Sheffield Eckington withdrawn 30/03/87 replaced by X30.
260/261 Sheffield Westfield Beighton Sheffield. Rerouted from 30/02/87 via owlthorpe Greenway Eckington way and drake house lane.The old route via waterthorpe was covered by X30.Diverted via Fitzwater rd instead of Granville rd from 18/05/87 to replace 23/32 to maintain an even 30 min frequency a Dennis domino ran a shuttle CBS - elm tree service during M-S daytime's.This ended from 02/11/87 when 269/261 were diverted via Wilfrid rd and prince of Wales rd to replace another abandoned section of 23/32.
262 Rotherham catcliffe orgreave halfway killamarsh. New commercial service hourly m-s daytime provide new links and extra capacity on part of the 264 route.
264 Rotherham Worksop from dcday the main service on this route passed to Excelsior under tender,and then to SUT.SYT continued to run some commercial Beighton/halfway Worksop journeys.SUT were deprived of their contract from 02/04/87, 264 was taken over by east midland on an emergency tender until 27/07/87 when SYT gained the contract and converted it to nippers.
Rotherham and Doncaster syt changes in 1987 with some tender wins for syt in Nottingham Nottinghamshire and west Yorkshire.
101 shireoaks Worksop netherton rd sch notts cc tender gained from SUT 25/10/87. 114 Roth dovedale rd the dovedale rd loop was reversed from 06/04/87.from 27/07/87 revised to run via herring Thorpe valley rd herring Thorpe lane dovedale rd to stag roundabout. 118 Roth Dinnington circle rerouted via masborough street and ferham rd instead of station rd and princess Street 02/11/87. 120/129 Roth Dinnington circle diverted from 23/11/87 between thurcroft and Dinnington via hellaby Bramley wicketsley and brecks and via Laughton common between Dinnington and Laughton. 124/134 Roth broom valley circle withdrawn from 26/10/86 and replaced by diversions of 125/135 withdrawn complety from 27/07/87 replaced by w1/w2 daytime and 125/135 evenings.
129 Knottingley station brownhill avenue m-s won from west riding on wypte tender from 28/06/87.Positioning journeys at 0830 from Doncaster north bus station via woodlands,A1 and A 645 and 1735 return are advertised.By January 1988 one M-F and four s Doncaster hampole journeys were also introduced.
130/133 Roth catcliffe Treeton revised from 27/07/87. 130 Roth catcliffe m-s in brinsworth runs full length of brinsworth lane replacing 132. 131/133 are no longer circles 131 runs Roth brinsworth catcliffe (Sheffield lane).early morning and ESU while 133 is reduced to run Roth Treeton su plus odd s journeys.130/132 now provide the main daytime services. 136 Roth Oakwood Roth hospital withdrawn 21/11/87 largely covered by other services. 137/138 Richmond park/ kimberworth park silver wood from d day 137 Eve was withdrawn.138 was diverted to serve Richmond park aswell as kimberworth park at these times. 141/142 Roth wingfield circle rerouted from 18/05/87 via at Ann's rd rawmarsh rd Rotherham rd Taylor's lane to serve retail world at parkgate. 145 Roth Staunton taken over on emergency tender from pegg on 06/12/86 following oeggs capacity problems with his hired minibuses.taken over by Gordon's of Rotherham 23/03/87 and then by east midland from march 1988 when Gordon's tender expires.
Doncaster Sunday morning services. These were reintroduced from 03/05 87 reinstating earlier cuts pre deregulation opposition by the crews had hindered the otes long standing plans to reintroduced the service there have been no local buses in Doncaster before 1200 the services are shared between Leon and syt they are as follows 156 Doncaster broomhiuse lane and 175 (intake),operated as a cross town service showing 156 162 armthorpe Doncaster balby and 181(reverse,operated by Leon 170 ( woodlands Doncaster cantley) and 177 ( reverse).
157 Doncaster alverley lane 0545 and 0615 from Doncaster and 0559 and 0629 and 0800 return all m-f taken over by Yorkshire rider on tender 04/05/87. 164 Doncaster arksey 0700 m-f from arksey taken over by Yorkshire rider and Eve service by ytc 04/05/87.
165 Doncaster Bentley circle from 09/01/87 alternate journeys diverted the opposite way round the Bentley loop as 166. This restores the pre d day position,though this routing was numbered 195.
172 hexthorpe Eden Thorpe su service taken over by Leon from 02/04/87. From 01/01/88 ESu service diverted via Beckett rd ,parkway north and Worcester avenue,to replace reductions in 163(Doncaster Wheatley.
173 Doncaster Hyde park circle.SU service taken over by Leon from 03/05/87.From 01/01/88,revised to run Doncaster Hyde park belle Vue,with 174 (reverse of 173) being withdrawn.leon participation ended from this date.
179 Doncaster Wheatley hills ESu service withdrawn 01/02/88. 181/182 Doncaster armthorpe. 182 to armthorpe (nutwell) withdrawn 26/01/87, replaced by A1-A3 and augmented 181.Su service on 181 taken over by Leon from 03/05/87. 186-188 Doncaster moorends coordinated with premier.since 29/06/87 all Lindholm's prison journeys been SYT operated. 193 Doncaster conaby m-s from 01/02/88 runs direct via warmswoeth rd,at peters rd loop covered by new 195. 195 Doncaster at peters rd warmsworth Stapleton rd M-S new commercial service of six journeys from 01/01/88.
