Driving up the ramp going into the carpark above Rotherham interchange to see below me a ADL sure it was YN56OMP with Barnsley on the Destination blinds. Fair enough i thought this would be on the 228/9 as a miss alocation but apparently not! This bus was on the 227 which has nothing to do with Rawmarsh Depot and is operated by Barnsley! So now this has got me thinking what is happening here and why is there a Rawmarsh Dart on a Barnsley run? Possibilites I Can Think Of- Bus on short term loan to Barnsley
- Bus transfered fully to Barnsley
- Bus was there for 108/9 branding applied though was needed for service
any news on this would be great ... Thanks MATTW

Thanks MATTW Rawmarsh current does or atleast has been doing 1 board of 227 work instead of Barnsley accoding to info on the YTC yahoo group a while back which explains why the bus was on there, if thats still the case then its just a case of wrong bus on wrong route nothing to do with transfering LF buses etc.

no we still do 1 board of the 2 on the 227, due to shafton being low on buses again, so most barnsley buses went to shafton also from huddersfield aswell, which in turn as made rawmarsh and huddersfield short on buses yet again.

I didn't think this really warranted a new thread, but then again couldn't find anywhere suitable to put it, this seemed about the best! A few notes from a wet daytrip around the region today, mainly to sample some of the "new" Leyland/Volvo Olympians at Stagecoach. A nice suprise on the X78 from Meadowhall was a trio of consecutive older B10Ms, G641NWA, followed by G610NWA, followed by H642RKU. A bit of a change from the norm but all 3 made a nice journey (if a rather long one jumping from one to another ;D) to Doncaster. In Doncaster I managed to find the 2 ex North East Leyland Olympians, J198HFR on the 149 and H194WFR on the 62. Its clear from my recent travels round that Stagecoach North East obviously had a varied collection of very tired, worn out buses (but newer than/arguably slightly superior to YTCs stock) in stock, and they have sent many of these to Yorkshire in the form of the most recent batch of cascades. Apparently (according to YTC Group News, ian@yorkshirebus) G182JHG had such a rotten floor that it is not viable to repair. The Leyland Olympians look very smart outside in truth and are pretty tidy inside really. However both of these buses are incredibly loud, and J198 is one of those buses that shakes and rattles really badly when its stood still. The First buses in Doncaster certainly proved better rides, in name a smart B7TL on the 15 and a suprisingly tidy B6LE on the 76 (N446BKY). I then headed off to catch an X19 to Barnsley. Dart SLF P718WFR came in from Finningley to work the route but Omnidekka YN53PAO which looked to have just come back from painting replaced it for the Barnsley leg of this trip. In Barnsley I found two of the three "new" Volvo Olympians. N719LTN looked very nice on the outside but again talk about noisy and rough engines! The gearbox also took an age to engage, and it wouldn't budge out of the stop until the driver turned it off, restarted it and revved it up for a while. Then a slightly better bus in terms of Oly VLT255, which although tatty outside was a fair bit better to ride on! Finally, spotted Verde M38PVN about and got a ride on this home. (now 3 at Barnsley including the other 2 L plates). This is just as tatty inside as L31HHN, but yet again seems incredibly loud on the engine! Sorry for going on

By the sounds of it, any vehicle which is not brand new is not good enough! Have you been on a First G/H regsitered B10M lately & heard yourself think. B6 midibus? Try them for vibration. I personally drove all 4 of the cascaded olympians from Stockton on the delivery run & did not find any of them to be "shakey" or "rattley"! How can anyone claim that N446BKY is a good bus! They were rubbish first time around with fronts moving & those nasty squeeling noises! Now they've been to Western Natuonal & come back like new. I don't think so. What a load of absolute trash. It's a shame you've nothing better to do!

Thought I'd better reply but don't want to start a disagreement or anything perhaps I was a bit vague with what I meant. Don't get me wrong I actually much prefer old buses, the B10Ms were great as I suggested at the start and although perhaps they are loud as you suggest, they do have a certain charm to them? I get the feeling that they are very popular on this forum too. The Olympians weren't bad buses in themselves at all, 14194 actually very nice, but then again they didn't seem great in comparison to other Leylands at YTC such as the ex K&D ones (perhaps should have put this at first) As I suggested the H reg was nice but louder than many others, and the J reg one vibrates at the back a lot. I suppose it may not help the problem with the fact that I sat at the back on the lower level on both buses. They weren't anything next to an old B6 for vibrations, but then again this problem doesn't usually seem to afflict OLYs so it made it worse than the others in comparison. I respect to the First B6LE, it wasn't too bad, superior to a lot of other B6LEs that I've been on at least, hence a suprisingly tidy B6LE. I did go in with low expectations knowing what old B6s are often like though so this possibly didn't help. Cheers

Thanks for the reply. Nothing meant by my comments. It just gets a little frustrating when changes are made for the better & still it's not good enough! I appreciate where you are coming from. Another decker due this weekend from Stockton I beleive - Volvo Olympian!

Sorry, I do see now that I was probably putting a downer on the new improvements, and don't get me wrong the change is certainly for the better. A slight bit of nostalgia for the Metrobuses must have been creeping in ;D, a "anything that replaces them is bad because it isn't a Metrobus" sort of feeling. I await to see what arrives in the near future, and am sure that the Volvos will make an improvement over what they displace! All the best
