The 218 will be the same as the 79 throughout its length except that between Barbers Ave and Kilnhurst Rd in Rawmarsh it will serve Green Lane, Bellows Rd, High St, Blythe Ave and Dale Rd instead of Green Lane, Clay Pit Lane and St Nicolas Rd. The majority of the old route is of course covered by the 108/9 which will operate to a slightly improved timetable. The 218 will have an extra bus in the cycle compared to the 79 to fix the punctuality problems. We plan to use internally cascaded Volvo B10BLEs - ie. low floors. Further new buses for Barnsley depot i think later this year.

This sounds very promising, at least i will still be on the 218 route, and it should make the route more reliable, also looking forward to the low floor buses that will be used, so will this bus rotue be run from barnsley or rawmarsh depots, or both? as i take it they are just not re routeing it via rawmarsh depot for nothing, as their are far too many bus services outside the depot already.

"New" service 218 will be operated by both Barnsley & Rawmarsh as per the current 79. The majority of journeys being covered by Rawmarsh Depot.

This is exclelent news for us folk in kilnhurst, but to be completely honest, this route should just be split into 2 due to the increasing traffic congestiona round parkgate, or maybe re routing it along fitzwilliam road and along the wash, which would be quicker and miss out all the traffic congestion, any ideas when it will be going low floor?

Oh this sounds very interesting can;t wait to see it go low floor, so as rawmarsh will be doing most jounreys, i take it some of these B10BLE buses will be going to rawmarsh, may i ask are these the ones currently used on service 325 in barnsley, or are they some new ones from other stagecoach oeprations in the uk? Im glad all the complaining as paid off, just hope it can turn out to be as good as what the old 77 route was, shame that was took off in the first place

when is the 79 been changed??? As said above the 79 changes route and number from the 20th may. It will become the 218 and run in front of rawmarsh depot, not along st nicholas road.

It is likely that both Rawmarsh & Barnsley depot's will use Low Floor Volvo B6's on the 218.

Well im glad these improvements are being made, after all this complaining like i have said it as fineailly paid off we will have low floor buses back again, let's just hope reliability isn't much of a problem anymore, but like as i have said above, im sure one or two routes could be re routed away from parkgate retail world, as it's just an over kill of buses on that route, which get caught up in sever traffic delays every day. Look forward to the new 218, you certainailly have one happy customer now can i just ask a question will these be volvo b6bles or the b6le buses which are currently branded for the maltby runs which stopped service today? Thanks in advance gct15513.

It is likely that the vehicles used will be the former Maltby buses as it is pointless to transfer these away to send others in. However in the bus world, 3 weeks is a LONG time! So these vehicles may move away on a temp basis & then others may be transferred in. The vehicle allocation is not yet confirmed other than LOW FLOOR MIDI BUS (ie Dart or B6).

thanks for letting me know gct, look forward to what ever buses we get on the 79 (as long as their low floor buses as you say) Also just offtopic slightly i still see the b6le buses still have the maltby branding, and price stickers on the windows, allthough im sure they will be removed over this weekend.

If you look at my 1st text its B10BLE's that will operate this route not B6BLE's as people think thats what they are. Its not!
