Welcome to the History of Public Transport in
Welcome to the History of Public Transport in SY. It is a very varied and interesting past. so if you have any facts, stories on public transport in SY please add to this site. The Bus scene has seen many changes over the last century or so. I have a catalogue of books and notes on this subject so I will enter various bits of info over the next few weeks.... like Did you know that in the days of the Old Sheffield Corporation Buses pre 1968 it was 3 fleets in one. Became Sheffield Transport 1968 to 1974 SYPTE took control 1974 Then became SYT then Mainline then First Mainline to its current name First SY. What happened to ? SUT, Sheffield & District, Sheafline Wigmores/Northern Bus, Richardsons, Groves, Sheffield Omnibus, Andrews, Yorkshire Terrier, South Riding .

Hello all, A chat with my great aunt revealed that my great, great, great uncle was behind the first bus operator in Barnsley (supposedly). The operator was called Mills (or so I'm told) and apparently it sold up to Yorkshire Traction.
Does anyone know more? I'm trying to find out more about this operator. Can you help?
Many thanks, Michael
