I spotted this earlier in Doncaster, heading into the interchange and wondered why it's in Doncaster? It looked like it had come via Duke Street, so probably a local route. The engines on these are much quieter than the S-UAKs- in fact, that's why it caught my attention...

Could have been on an X78, as they come via Duke St.

Their was a LF dart on the X78 today so may well have been that bus on that route.

engines quieter! you must be deaf then (sorry) but the engines on these buses are extremly loud, they have good pulling power though, unlike the spd darts, and like what as being said it was on the x78, as i saw this earlier in rotherham interchange.

Probably comparative to spuds - whilst you in Sheffield no longer have to use the wrecks, Doncaster still uses them (crosses fingers and hopes they're gone soon).

Actually tom we do have them in sheffield the 132 route springs to mind through arbourthorne and richmond, now if you have ever travelled on a spud up east bank road, you will know why they are better off in doncaster.

No samuel you don't. Yes they go into Sheffield on the 132 but they are not based there as the 132 is run from Rotherham

No samuel you don't. Yes they go into Sheffield on the 132 but they are not based there as the 132 is run from Rotherham Well if they are running through Sheffield, we still "have" them, despite the fact they are run from Rotherham and not OG/HY. I think that's what Sam meant as I'm sure he knows where the 132 is based!

Possibly is what Sam meant, but don't you think that Tom meant "Sheffield don't have to use the wrecks" because none are allocated there?

I just meant we have the 132 running through sheffield, on one of the steepest gradiants in the city, and you should try catching a spud up their, didn't mean any where allocated here, and meant that they are better suited for doncatser, as doncaster is all flat unlike sheffield and rotherham.

Woah! I was just basing it on the fact that there aren't any allocated there. However on a +ve note, let's hope it isn't too long until the wrecks leave .

True, and even now on the 132 their seems to be more b10ble's operating on this route, along with the four ex a1 darts, so hardly any spd darts run this route anymore, they seem to be on the 10/10a and the 41/42 now.
And yes lets hope they do go soon, but at the end of the day i would rather have a lot of spd darts than a lot of b6/darts.

Can someone just do a check on the thread name please, this will NOT turn into a "we hate SPUDSs" thread again.
No SPUDS operate from Sheffield depots, but primarily through the 132, but also workings on the 21 (plus odd 17s and such) SPUDs are not infrequent visitors. Has to be said that Sheffield and SPUDs are incompatable whether Doncaster residents like it or not and that probably explains why the YV03xxx Darts and B10BLEs are mainly used on the 132.
And the B7L is neither the loudest nor most uncomfortable bus in the world, indeed what a daft comment. Although poorly laid out there is no doubt the the B7L is a decent vehicle. Indeed, the manufacture has nothing to do with the seating you melon!

Thanks for the responses- I'd forgotten that the X78 comes down Duke Street, so I was surprised to see it! While wanting to stay away from Spud-bashing- there's no way that the one I heard yesterday is anywhere near as loud as the S-UAKs, Sam! It even sounded like a different engine, which (given the age difference) it might well have been. It didn't cause everything nearby to vibrate as it accelerated!
