When the 5 digit fleetnumbers were introduced, the Miscellaneous vehicles were in the 90000 series, but now there are not-how come they are not numbered like this anymore?
Why not? Is it not efficent to renumber the vehicles, escpecially buses or coaches?
Sean

Why?
Its not as if anything but on paper (or in the depot) they are used, so why change them?
I always wondered why theres a Doncaster B6LE with the fleetnumber 48141 when the rest are late 404**s.
Anyone know?

Olive are currently running a transit panel van for service support, a brand new transit pick up in white and also a new vauxhall combi van, again in white. operations has an 05 plate astra diesel. The driver trainers are under "number for life" rules.

Anyone know? Due to buses moving at different times - ie 48141 would have moved to Devon at the SY was renumbered, as by the time Devon got new numbers they were on "Version 2" where they tried to match numbers to registrations. Much the same reason why MV02VBU at Northampton is 61148 rather than 66331 - it's all because it was one of the last 2 to leave Manchester, and got allocated a "version 1" number when the rest of the Manchester buses were renumbered, whereas the other 24 were renumbered at Northampton (in "version 2"), despite there being a gap left for it (ps 61147 did get it's other number, but can't recall which bus this was).

Why were the Northampton buses renumbered from 1, 5 digit number to another, when they were supposed to be numbers for life, as captain said?

Why were the Northampton buses renumbered from 1, 5 digit number to another, when they were supposed to be numbers for life, as captain said? They weren't renumbered from 1 5 figure number to another, as they only carried 1 5 figure number. They arrived and entered service still with the 7xx series numbers from Manchester, and then later became 333-358. Then when the 5 figure numbers came, they became 66323-66348 (with the exception of 66331 which became 61148). Basically, MV02VCT was 347 then 66341 (but allocated 61147 whilst still in Manchester) MV02VBU was 348 then 66331 on paper (but carries 61148 which was allocated whilst still in Manchester. It's much the same at the N...CMP / P...HMD's being in 2 seperate batches - as they changed the way the numbers were allocated halfway through. YU52VYM was allocated 31136 from New, but somehow Bristol numbered it 31336 by mistake when it entered service there. Even so, it was later renumbered 32278 when the Bristol fleet was renumbered.
