I remember when I lived in Nottingham there was a piece of red flooring next to the door, so the Passenger’s know not to stand there. Does anybody think it would be useful if it was introduced nationwide as a safety measure. Would it Work?
I know Stagecoach already have red Flooring, but this would be a darker shade of red.

Well, i don't think many people really pay attention to it to be honest, and often drivers don't enforce it. Plus, most newer buses do have it, SPD's have the red section near the door, Gemini's have a strip (I'm sure) like the new E300's.
I don't think its a H&S requirement on the flooring, and on paper might seem good, but would it actually work?
Personally, I doubt it.

oh right, I've never seen it on the SPD's, Gemini's or Enviro's-will have to look out for it.

I've never noticed anything before, but common sense shows, if you're not holding onto a poll when you're near the door, you're going to go through the windscreen anyway whether you're right by it or three metres from it (in the event of a sudden brake, that is). If fact, it's probably safer if you're closer to the window!

a lot of people dont have common sense-watch them, they go flying all over the place and some even stand right next to the door and have to step backwards to let the door open

All night 52 was same 1st stop on west street at 1am used to be chocka, just drive steady and make sure all those standing got out of the way for those alighting. Does'nt hurt to shout down bus "anyone else for this stop" or "make some room-move down the bus please". Club wow was easier, 93 on a B10BLE? they are all going same place so unloading wasnt a problem (with supervision).

Take it from me, as THE regular driver on there, nights as a whole was abolished for 2 reasons. 1, the amount of evening work dropping due to lack of staff while up to 12 drivers were engaged on contract work. 2, some of said drivers were paying in very little amounts of money on £1 flat fare club wow returns EG; 4 return trips to rotherham carrying an average of 60-65 passengers each=paying in less than £40. Then came 693... instead of an M-VET. cctv......

That's a real shame, especially if they were getting those kind of loads, certainly more passengerst than certain routes get during the daytime I appreciate it's hard to get drivers for "antisocial hours" (hence the frequency cuts during the summer, and all year at weekends etc), and the changing demands, but... Anyhow, as a regular user between introduction in 1998 and moving away in October 2000, I must have seen you a few times (I was the drunk Scottish bloke!)

What annoys me is when they put a body strip or a covering strip of a differant colour near the front it looks like a strep and people trip over it

Plenty of staff willing to do nights, i'd still be on now otherwise. at one point there was 25 night drivers and 6 staffbus men plus 2-3 radio/inspectors doing them. I used to be on 52s anything from 2 nights to 7 nights a week, remember Elvis? got off on northfield road.

Given the boom in Sheffield nightlife/ student population, it's surely possible to get a wee network of late buses - e.g. London Road/ Abbeydale Road, Ecclesall Road, Crookes to Hillsborough, maybe even the NGH?

NB by "wee" he means little, not what the neds deposit on the back seat.
It's very annoying when the only place you can possibly stand is at the front (because a stupidly small bus has been misallocated), then the driver tries to tell you you're not standing there. Er, yes, I am, as there's nowhere else to stand. Maybe if you were in a properly sized bus, I would sit or stand elsewhere.
