I'm looking at incorporating the Faller Car System to a model railway with various buses running around the station and I have a few questions.
1) Which pre-existing models could be re-bodied using British outline vehicles? I don't want a left-hand drive coach for example, so what I guess I need is a lost of faller models and their wheelbases and lengths so I can figure out what chassis would fit what models.
2) Would standard Hornby/Peco track interfere with the guidance system? I am considering a tram line running in the road using standard rail, do you think the track would send vehicles off course?
Thanks for the help guys!

Now I'm not sure if it is possible, but have you considered buying models from EFE etc and installing the electronics to them yourself.
Thanks,

....still a project i want to also do !!! The main problem is the price , costing around £50 per motor per vehicle (starter set) !! Check out this site , a little dated , but the same principles apply , with modern diecasts . If you are coming to the model show on Sat , i am sure there is supposed to be at least 1 motorised bus layout , where you will be able to get some advice and ideas ! ....... bit.ly/k54e45...and some more here using the Faller system ..... bit.ly/jAZ6mM

Yes you could buy some EFE's and install the chassis to them. A long time ago i want to a event at Priory Campus Barnsley and a group in Barnsley, were running some Barnsley "Tracky" Buses on the Faller track.
Also if you have Discovery Shed on your TV channels and watch a programme called Model Town and there is a piece on using the system, as a Canal Boat.

Well thats made my mind up about the model exhibition! metromadman, I think that would be possible with things like guide arms(probably) but (sucessfully) motorising a rear axle would probably be beyond me at this stage! And I've read that Midland Red site a few times, and although very helpful it doesn't answer those actual questions.

...in answer to your specific questions ... 1) You will have to alter the wheelbase yourself as the Faller system is to a set length for their LHD vehicles supplied. The Faller kit base is fairly easy to chop about , but i dont have a list of which UK spec models they would fit as i have not done any as yet. That being said , ( i have seen a motorised B10BLE diecast done in First livery !) , most diecasts with a plastic floor/ chassis could be used . It is the metal floor ones that would be more difficult ie: Leyland Nationals (EFE) and Metrobuses (OOC Corgi) as two examples, although i suppose they could be done by grinding out the floor section ! Most resin kits could be motorised although would need extra weights to slow them down as they would run at around 70mph scale speed ! 2) It depends how close the Faller guide wire is to the tram track . The bus's steering is made by the magnet guider so i think if it is no less than 12.5 mm (1/2 inch) away from the tramline it should be okay - but then you would have the problem of the o/s wheels of the bus running on the tramline so may have to adjust , Even putting the guide wire in the centre of the tramline would be ok , but then the bus wheels would all run on the tracks , so would'nt look right !? Cross-overs are no problem. Hope this helps!
