well done Keir - you will get better results the more you do as i did , and i will help when i can as you know - but i know with the evolution of digital photography , every blemish is magnified lol - thats why i like to show mine on display so people see them through human eyes !!!

Great work 2101. , every blemish is magnetised Transit do you mean magnified? or do models suffer from attracting iron filings?

Thank you. I do find that when I take pictures and they're big like they are there you notice things like small areas of splashed paint, brush marks, paint on windows etc that I don't see when looking at them. Looking back at previous models that I have done they have vastly improved, such as the roof on the Palatine has a shine to it unlike the 1st Palatine that I did.

Aye, the model exhibition I went to in Sheffield back in June where I bought these models I picked up an idea of making buses look weathered. Someone had some models of scrap buses which looked quite good. It isn't realistic to see every model bus shining with no odd panels!

The model of 790 is a little harsh on it, but the one of 60351 is quite good, complete with realistic-looking scuff and broken paint on N/S front.
It is possible to make them look really good, Ive seen some cracking examples of 'weathered' model trains.
Tip: To apply a spraying of 'dirt' to a vehicle, take a decent-sized dry brush, dip it in the tiniest amount of appropriatley-coloured paint, and dab onto a sheet of kitchen towel or similar until very small amount is left on the brush. Then gently dab onto the vehicle. The same goes for applying 'soot' around exhausts, or if doing trains, on domes of HSTs etc.
As always, practice it on something else before doing it on the actual model!

I haven't weathered 790, it's that it has been sat in the garage for a long time and was covered in dust, which I didn't realise until I uploaded the photos. It was not easy to do either that Mainline livery.
