Notice the 66 has been reduced to every 12 minutes and the 66a will be impacted with a timetable change too. |

I thought that changes made to the 19/19a/19b wouldn't go down well in Rotherham. Anyone know what is going to happen now? Also on route 65 to Buxton - are they trying to cut this now??

According to the High Peak Buses webpage the company will no longer run tendered services on the 65 - they will only operate 2 commercial journeys on the route in both directions during the daytime Monday - Saturday. It states that other tendered journeys will be re-tendered by the council. Any idea who, if anyone, will bid for these? TM Travel again or maybe Hulleys of Baslow? Hulleys now operate the 66 to Chesterfield or Baslow from Buxton and this could inter-link. Any ideas here? www.highpeakbuses.com/future-service-changes |

Another long standing bus service will bite the dust from Saturday 21st July 2018.....
Service 496 operated by Arriva from Wakefield to Doncaster via South Emsall will be withdrawn I remember this service been operated by W R & P Bingley.......
I Quote the poster at bus stops along the route.......
From Monday 23rd July 2018
Service 496 operated by Arriva will NO longer serve South Yorkshire& will operate between Wakefield & Upton
An hourly train service runs between Doncaster & South Emsall Providing regular links for passengers travelling into West Yorkshire....
Additionally From the 23rd July a new service 52 will be provided by First South Yorkshire for peak time journeys only will operate between Doncaster & South Emsall Bus Station where onwards travel can be found... These journeys will provide access to employment & Education in West Yorkshire when local rail links are not practicable.....
The Bus service is as follows
Doncaster to South Emsall
0535-------NS
0707
South Emsall to Doncaster
1640
Thats all the services that will run according to the poster......
Me thinks it wont last very long......

Do you know to be honest I am getting a little bit fed up of bus companies thinking after a relatively short period of time, that they can just dump tendered work. Also what is really annoying about the 65's situation is that the company seem to think its okay (which it is but I don't think it's moral) to keep the work themselves that is commercially viable but not want to take on any of the runs that they say aren't viable. This is dispute getting paid to run the services by the council, just now not enough in their eyes. I think if they are not happy with the level of subsidy offered for such a low frequency route, they should give the whole route up and let another operator take some of the benefit.
As it is they can run two services a day and take all the gain with no pain, that just doesn't sit well with me am afraid. I appreciate that this view might be controversial and it's purely my own view. Where a service runs every half hour or hourly, I guess not all services will always make their money back, therefore there is risk taken on by the companies concerned even if another operator does evenings and Sundays tendered work for example.
However when a service is so infrequent, I don't know it touches a nerve with me.
As for Rotherham 19's I use them multiple times and am 15 minutes late at either end on average, change is needed quickly not enough time on them. However anyone hoping for a route change I fear will be disappointed, just tweaks to a currently very poor timetable and long winded route.

With the changes to the 19, saw a reduction between Thurcroft and Dinnington. Which always seemed a popular route. But I do like the act it’s now every 15 mins along the Hospital corridor! |

Whilst that is certainly true in South Yorkshire, for years Derbyshire have insisted that tendered routes accept other operators return tickets. I am pretty sure that is still the case. Sadly, there are some operators who then decide to stop selling returns to inconvenience passengers in retaliation. That certainly happened on one Derbyshire tendered route. |

Morning, at least with Sypte you can buy multi operator tickets to use any operator even if it costs a bit more. Therefore if the operator suddenly changes, or the service is run by multiple operators, you can still use your ticket. I would only buy weekly or monthly tickets, never annual operator ones. You don't know if your service will still be running in twelve months time!

I have no problem with 19's serving the hospital in Rotherham, Great idea! What I do have a problem with is the new route around Dinnington, you serve parts of it twice more a less on a backwards loop and it's that combined with changes to Laughton that are making it late nearly every time. Never mind the hold ups you get leaving Forge island at the roundabouts, Then queing to turn up Alma toad and getting stuck at the lights. I personally think that the route around Dinnington should have been left as it was. in which case timetable wise you probably could Just about manage to run it on time, taking into account other route changes past the hospital etc. As it is time wise you have no chance. As for 19 shorts as drivers call them that terminate at Thurcroft why oh why are they numbered 19 and not 19S for example? the number of people that were getting on a 19 wanting Dinnington or further and having to wait at Thurcroft for the next bus. I witnessed that several times as well.

Strange that they have published the 65 Buxton timetable when the tender process was not complete. They have only published the reduced High Peak journeys - anyone any news who, if anyone, has won this tender?
