Currently out to tender from SYPTE are 3 options for a City Centre Shuttle service, running an anti-clockwise loop from Sheffield Interchange, Arundel Gate, Town Hall, West Street, Rockingham Street, Moorfoot, Moorhead and Sheffield Railway Station. Unsure which option SCC will choose, but one of the options sees service running from 06:00 until 22:30 daily. Certainly ambitious! This has come about due to the permanent closure of Pinstone Street. Surrey Street will have a new bus gate close to the junction of Fargate/Leopold Street. Rockingham Street will also have a new southbound bus gate, with two-way traffic permitted from West Street, meaning Carver Street and Division Street will no longer have to be used by buses. These works are scheduled to be complete by Sunday 5th June. The new route will be commencing service from Monday 13th June 2022. Will operate with EURO VI vehicles for now, until the Electric Vehicles through ZEBRA are procured and delivered.

A nice idea, however should it be running with the risk of so many potential cuts? Could the money have been better spent?

A nice idea, however should it be running with the risk of so many potential cuts? Could the money have been better spent? Yes I'm inclined to agree. It seems strange to start a new subsidized service when so many others are being cut back. Would it not be better to keep existing routes running past 22:00 (at a minimum on Fridays and Saturdays but ideally all week) instead?
