Recent threads got me thinking. 25 years ago, Allotts Corner on Hoyland Common had numerous services each hour. Today, that is a shadow of it's form self.

Late 90's (around 42 services an hour)

324 Barnsley - Hoyland every hour
325 Barnsley - Hoyland/Elsecar. Barnsley & District and Headlight Every 5 minutes
326 Barnsley - Elsecar every hour
327/328 Jump Circular every hour
265 Barnsley - Sheffield every hour
X10 Barnsley - Sheffield every hour
216 Wath - High Green every hour
266 Barnsley - Rotherham every hour
227 Barnsley - Rotherham every hour
39A/39B Blacker Hill circular


November 2023 (14 services an hour)

66 Barnsley - Elsecar every 15 minutes
67. Barnsley - Wombwell every hour
2. Barnsley - Sheffield every hour
72. Manvers - Chapeltown

Even accounting for the lack of Headlight type competition in the area, thats still a huge decrease.

What other areas in Barnsley and the rest of South Yorkshire have seen similar cuts?

I would guess just about every area, especially in daytime. Back in the early 90s most routes had competition. For example Stannington had 86 SYT four per hour and 85 South Riding four per hour. Once below Stanwood Avenue were also 8 per hour buses from SYT and Andrews. Then on Infirmary Road this increased further with buses from Middlewood, Wisewood etc. These days Infirmary Road is like a bus desert and Stannington even worse.

Grimesthorpe/lower Wincobank. Carlisle Street East/Holywell Road. Used to be a bus every 10 minutes with 93 straight along Carlisle Street East and Holywell Road. Now there is one stop on Carlisle Street East (out of Sheffield), and one on Holywell Road in both directions, served by a 137, every hour. Around the estates there was the 3 and 4 plus 17 along Upwell Street, both every half an hour.

Even in mid 2000's there was the 45 (35) and 46 (36), 17 (18), B1/B2 and D1/D2 routes combined around this area.
