NEXT STEPS FOR BETTER BUSES IN NORTH SHEFFIELD 5 May 2006
Over the past few months, Sheffield City Council and the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive have been talking with local residents and bus passengers in North Sheffield about proposals and ideas to improve bus journeys along Burngreave Road and Spital Hill.
These proposals are part of the North Sheffield Better Buses project which aims to provide:
* quicker bus journey times; * more reliable bus services; * better bus stops; and * improved information for bus passengers.
Following the helpful feedback and comments received from the public, the City Council and the Transport Executive have revised their proposals to improve them for local residents, businesses and all road users.
Details of these revised proposals will be delivered and distributed to local residents, traders and bus passengers from Friday 5 May 2006.
Local residents and businesses in and around Burngreave Road and Spital Hill will receive an information leaflet in the post. Bus passengers will be able to pick up information on their local bus service.
Other members of the public will be able to get the leaflet from a number of shops and community facilities in the local area. A web site (www.citymatters.co.uk/spitalhill) and an information line (0845 303 0343) will also remain open for all enquiries about these proposals.
Also on Friday 5 May 2006, the Traffic Regulation Order needed to progress these revised proposals will be advertised in the Sheffield Star and on-street. It will be available for viewing at Burngreave Library and the Central Library. Anyone interested in the proposals has until 26 May to submit their comments.
All of the issues raised during the TRO process, as well as those raised during the earlier consultation, will then be reported later in the year to the City Council's West and North Planning and Highways Board which will decide on the best way forward.
John Bann Head of Transport and Highways for Sheffield City Council said: "These discussions with local residents and bus passengers in North Sheffield have been particularly helpful. Our proposals to improve bus journeys along Burngreave Road and Spital Hill come at an important time following the introduction of improvements in Ecclesfield, Fir Vale, Firth Park, Pitsmoor and Sheffield Lane Top. The proposed scheme will help to further develop an improved public transport system for Sheffield, making it easier for everyone to enjoy better and more reliable journeys."
