As some of you may be aware, I'm currently in the process of updating the network maps, at the request of the feedback over the last few months, including moving them into a PDF format. I'm starting all 6 over from scratch once again and also going for new line colours on the routes, along with other minor things, such as bigger and clearer text for example. So far I've only completed the revised Rotherham Network Map and this is available to view below, it is correct as of February 2010, including all the changes in January to the local network. Any comments would be immensely appreciated, on how to better improve the maps. Rotherham Network Map: www.sy-transport.co.uk/maps/rotherham_network_map.pdfThanks, Staff at South Yorkshire Transport

Updated the Rotherham Network Map and it is the same link as before. Reduced the file size from 1.56mb to 527kb, so it should as a result open much quicker. Any comments, let me know. Currently working on the Supertram and Train Network Maps at the minute, though thought I'd get the worst one over and done with first (Rotherham) due to the complexity of some of the routes, with them criss-crossing over each other on the map, such as the Kimberworth Park area.

Looks excellent and a vast improvement on the previous map, as now we can play around with it, now it is in PDF format. Also looks much more clearer. If only the PTE could use this map, instead of their ill performed effort at the Rotherham Interchange Map, which can be viewed in this thread: www.forum.sy-transport.co.uk/index.cgi?board=buses&action=display&thread=13105Keep up the good work Sam! looking forward to seeing the revamped Sheffield map now.

Superb map. Certainly is a lot more clearer than the previous map and even better now that it is in PDF format.
Have noticed that on the A1 route though, that you have 'Tinsley - Tinsley Viaduct' placed twice, shouldn't one of those be, either 'Tinsley - Sheffield Road' or 'Tinsley - Riverside Park'?
Everything looks good in terms of the topography and it certainly is a vast improvement on the PTEs effort for the Rotherham Interchange network diagram, that was also posted on the forum, with them thinking Parkgate had moved to Herringthorpe and the 108/109/218/220/221 and 229 didn't serve Parkgate either. The best one that I saw on that map though, was that the X78 didn't follow the same route as the 220 and 221 into Doncaster from Conisbrough, apparently the X78 served Warmsworth only, with the 220 and 221 serving Balby only...

Looks good to me, nice to see that most routes in Rotherham have also being included, it goes to show that this can occur. Nice to see different colour lines too, mainly to the Overground routes by FSY.

Thanks for the comments so far. The main thing I was looking for was are people happy with the large scale print version of the map, or would you prefer a smaller resolution? Then again Adobe PDF is good for this, been fully customisable to each individuals taste. So this may not be such a major problem after all.
For the point about Tinsley on the A1 (Brown) route, one of those should say Vantage Park. I shall get this updated as and when time permits. Still playing around with the settings and looking at new alternatives at the moment, before settling with 1 new scheme.

Rotherham Network Map updated. The size has gone back to 1.52mb, to become compatible with all Adobe PDF versions and I've added the Pages panel to the left, to make it easier to navigate around the map when zoomed in. I'm also half way through the Barnsley Network Map at the moment and you can have a quick sneak preview here. Only N.E. Barnsley is mainly completed at this stage. Still a long way to go yet. some of the letters writing on the Rotherham map is missing such as 69 route through Attercliffe has it spelt as Atterc e, She eld Arena, Chapel eld Road. Wingfield, Ravenfield, Catcliffe are also the same and the arrow next to 27 in Whiston is the wrong way round. apart from these a very good map clear and very easy to understand

Sam, you have 'Whiston, Guilthewaite Hill' down 3 times on the section where the 33 joins the 25/27/29 at Aughton. Other than that, it looks great and I'm looking forward to the Doncaster map coming along now.

Jase, try reloading/refreshing the document, as I can assure you, there are no missing letters in the Illustrator file. May have failed to load properly on your machine. Let me know if you're still having the same problems with the file after refreshing the document.
35234, many thanks for pointing that out to me. I shall get that changed ASAP, though as I'm nearly done with the Barnsley Network Map now, I shall not upload it to the server, until I've completed the Barnsley map.
Thanks for all the comments so far and feel free to keep them coming, along with any suggestions. As you may have noticed, routes with a 30 minute or better Monday to Friday daytime service are now being shown. I shall also be splitting some routes up, such as the 75/76 in Sheffield, to better differentiate against the different routes.
Thanks, Staff at South Yorkshire Transport

Good to hear Jase. Also regarding the arrows, they are pointing in the correct direction, though, I will modify them, so they are at 90 degree angles only and not 45 degree angles in future, to avoid this confusion. A little like what I've done in the Eastwood and East Dene areas with the 11a and 12.
